I rented a small house in a off the beaten path country town that was just perfect ! I like to continue the saga of our new road warrior experiences even if now with less in our family,This post is on my latest road warrior tour of wonderful sublime Spain. Therefore, let me tell you about the Church El Salvador of Arévalo !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The town of Arévalo is in the province of Avila, in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y Léon , in the kingdom of Spain, Only 73 km from our rental house in Velliza and 126 km from Madrid, We were going to Madrid with book reservations and had extra time in the morning so I took my road warrior mode on and came in off the A6 highway to see this wonderful town passed many times and finally in, This is a new town and find in my world map, Spain is huge of beautiful towns, working on it still….
The Church of El Salvador is located in the Plaza de El Salvador in the extramuros and of Romanesque brick factory. According to tradition, its origin could go back to the time of Emperor Constantine who sent her erect in the year 336. Another tradition ensures that during the Muslim domination El Salvador maintained the Christian Mozarabic cult. Some authors propose their remote status as Jewish synagogue. Documented in the parish inventory of the Bishopric of Ávila in 1250, it was significantly renovated at the end of the 16th century. Closed to cult, it has served as the headquarters of cultural events The Romanesque and Mudejar elements correspond to the chapel of the Gospel and the Tower. In the 16C and 17C, new reforms were undertaken in which new chapels and vaults were added. Currently without worship, here the processional steps of Holy Week are normally kept. Built between the 12C and 18C, the church has experienced successive transformations. The current configuration of the factory is the result of the different actions carried out on the original plant, apparently Basilical of three naves and with a tripartite head. Inside, the only preserved apse, in the nave is Romanesque; It presents a triumphant arc of access to monstrous heads, cannon vault with fajones arches supported by Corinthian columns and capitals, and sphere room vault. On this apse-chapel, the robust Mudejar tower rises, which is accessed by a staircase embedded in the walls; It is structured in two cameras, the first with a semi -inferous dome on tubs and the second with a pointed vault, and the bell body employs as vain semicircular arches. The main facade, a classicist of the late 16C, is made of brick.
The interior of the Church of El Salvador is organized by three naves decorated with baroque plasters in the vaults, which support strong granitic columns, and marked by different side chapels. It highlights in particular the chapel to the right of the presbytery, on the side of the epistle, square and large dimensions. Founded in 1562, it houses an extraordinary altarpiece of 1573 and finish in 1577 , This masterpiece of the Castilian Renaissance imagery includes the reasons of the Immaculate , the Calvary, Santa Ana, San Antonio, San Pedro, San Andrés, the baptism of Jesus and the imposition of the shell to San Ildefonso. Notable is also the baroque Chapel of Las Navas, on the side of the Gospel, erected in 1633, with an oval dome and a large canvas of Italian painting of the second half of the 16C and that represents the sacred conversation. The chapel located at the foot of the temple, founded in 1707, is dedicated to the Virgen del Rosario. On the other side of the low choir, another chapel dedicated to Santa Ana is located. The main altarpiece with Doric columns and dome with virtues drawings.
