This is Arévalo !!!

We were back to my dear Spain again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see new places with my sons and our dog Rex ! I rented a small house in a off the beaten path country town that was just perfect ! I like to continue the saga of our new road warrior experiences even if now with less in our family,This post is on my latest road warrior tour of wonderful sublime Spain. Therefore, let me tell you about this is Arévalo !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The town of Arévalo is in the province of Avila, in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y Léon , in the kingdom of Spain, Only 73 km from our rental house in Velliza and 126 km from Madrid, We were going to Madrid again with book reservations and had extra time in the morning so I took my road warrior mode on and came in off the A6 highway to see this wonderful town passed many times and finally in, This is a new town and find in my world map, Spain is huge of beautiful towns, working on it still……

The town of Arévalo aka as the town of the five lineages , In the old town of Arévalo a notable amount of examples of Mudejar Castilian architecture also called” Romanesque brick ” and constitutes one of the most outstanding places in this regard , The town goes by two important roads: the A-6 highway, or Autovia del Noroeste (Northwest Highway), which joins Madrid with La Coruña, communicates this population with the main cities of the Northwest. Tordesillas , a knot that gives access to Valladolid, Palencia, Burgos and around the entire Spanish north is at 59 km. The CL-605 regional road that joins Segovia at 61 km and Zamora at 118 km.

You have the Plaza de la Villa ,a typically Castilian, columnated square, that is, with supportals, according to popular expression. O historically interesting, the building called the Casa de los Sexmos or house of the sixths that the government housed these territorial constituencies.

Despite its status it is one of the monuments with the greatest heritage of the town The Ermita de La Lugareja aka ChurchSanta María, the hermitage, which is 1.5 km to the south of the town, was formerly a Mudejar style monastery of which only the head with three apses remains. The Palacio de los Sedeño is located on the Calle Santa María. It is a palace house that has a rectangular tower of 18 meters. The construction of the latter is dating around 1400, while the rest of the is in a ruin state. In the 15C, the cover and the three frosted holes of the upper floor ,are 16C.  The Palacio Gutiérrez-Altamirano is located on the Calle Larga ,and is divided into several private houses. It is a house-palace of lords Altamirano . One of their peculiarities is a corner balcony with a Ionic capitel column, very similar to the characteristics of  Extremadura skid balconies. It is corner of the callejón del Paraíso( alley of Paradise). In this palace the grandparents of Hernán Cortés lived. There are also other mansions such as Palacio Cárdenas; Palacio de Río Ungría; Palacio Ronquillo Ballesteros (in ruins); and Palacio del General Vicente de Río, the Palacio del Marqués de Villasante on Calle La Morería. The Royal Houses of Arévalo or Palacio de El Real, where Isabel the Catholic has disappeared in the 1970s for reasons never entirely clarified.  See, also, the History Museum located in the Plaza de la Villa,  Former home of the city hall and the Sexmos.

A bit of history I like tell us that Arévalo was founded around 1085-1090, in the context of the Christian reconquest, It appears documented for the first time in the year 1090, when repopulators from the north of the Peninsula arrive at it , During the second half of the 12C was border among the kingdoms of Castile and León, There were a large Jewish and Muslim community settled, being the Jewish of Arévalo the second of the kingdom of Castile at the beginning of the 15C, The king Enrique IV King of Castile summoned Cortes (the courts) ,and, later queen Isabel la Católica in the Royal Houses of Arévalo passed her youth in the city also established her court the brother of Isabel, Alfonso. The town was committed by Enrique IV to Álvaro Stúñiga, a family member with a lineage of Navarro origin granting the lordship and duchy of this in 1469 ; however, the Duchy of Arévalo only lasted until 1480, delivering Arévalo to Isabel de Portugal , progenitor of Isabel la Católica, On July 2, 1494 The Treaty of Tordesillas was ratified in Arévalo. This agreement would also be ratified in Setúbal by the Portuguese monarch Juan II on September 7, 1494. In the 16C Ignacio de Loyola spent his adolescence in Arévalo, being the most likely date of his stay in the town the period between 1506 and 1517. The passage of the French armies in the town aggravated the situation even more for the excessive demands of the invader by officers like Auguste Marmont, Duke of Ragusa, reached the looting of the city, The city acquired the title of city on July 19 1894, granted by María Cristina de Habsburg-Lorena-Regent of Alfonso XIII.
