We were back to my dear Spain again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see new areas and old repeat with some of them as introduction to my sons and our dog Rex ! I rented a small house in a off the beaten path country town that was just perfect ! I like to continue the saga of our new road warrior experiences even if now with less in our family, This post is on my latest road warrior tour of wonderful sublime Spain. Therefore, let me tell you about this is Rueda !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The town of Rueda is located in the province of Valladolid and the autonomous community of Castilla y Léon in the kingdom of Spain, It is 43 km from Valladolid City ,22 km from our rental house in Velliza, and 172 km from Madrid, We were near again and decided to take another look and load up gas at the CEOS gas station with the friendly guy who talked me first about Verdejo white wine, the prime of the area. I like to tell you again on Rueda for the memories of always and return, eventually. And yes it was -2C and foggy!!!
The Ermita del Cristo de las Batallas or hermitage of the Christ of the battles is an original baroque construction of octagonal plant, to which a square plant dressing was added with two bodies made in brick on the masonry base and square dome. It was built in 1726. The main altarpiece of a single body, which is topped by a semicircular attic with a crucified Christ with the invocation of the battles of the 17C, which used to have at his feet the bust of the Dolorosa Virgin of the 18C.

The Church Santa María de la Asunción acquired absolute preponderance, which marks the baroque character of the construction carried out on the previous Renaissance church, when this small one remained among other reasons for the increase in population. The previous church only the bell tower and an adjacent chapel remains. It was built between 1738 and 1747 and is one of the best architectural samples of the 18C in the province of Valladolid.

There are a string of shops bars restos and wonderful architectural mansions along the main Calle del Santisimo Cristo, into Plaza Mayor and Calle Real cutting right into the center of the town, which we rode and walked all of it This you can get in by the A6 highway north or south entries.

The project of Bodegas Pagos del Rey started in 2002 with the aim of making quality wines in the most prestigious wine making regions in Spain, with wines with their own personality. This is Pagos del Rey S.L in Rueda The winery in Rueda was opened in 2005.It is in this winery where the brand Blume is born, leader brand in DO Rueda wines in the off trade in Spain. Verdejo is the main grape and the symbol of the identity of the region. It was here last time that we came into Bodegas Prado Rey , with a nice welcome and the saying of drink Verdejo and you won’t get old!! We purchase Analivia Sauvignon Blanc, Analivia Verdejo Seleccion , and the Blume Verdejo Seleccion, We took a turn to come back here but amazing they ran out of wines for 2023 and the new 2024 was been bottled so no wines!! Well it will have to be next time, we will be back, eventually,

Other things to see in Rueda, me think, are : City hall , rehabilitated completely only his old facade is preserved. From this monument you have one of the best panoramic views of this town. The House of the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Rueda. And the underground wineries of the town which travel the entire municipality through the subsoil.
A bit of history I like tell us that the foundation of this Villa dates of the Roman era, around 380-420. With the name of Roda it is cited in a chronicle during the reign of Don Pelayo, in the 7C. It appears reflected in a July 940 document with the name of Rota. Another document referring to this Villa dates back to 981 when Almanzor, after looting the strong square of the city of Zamora, presented battle and defeated, in the plains of Rueda, to the armies of Ramiro III de León and its allies García Fernández de Castilla and Sancho Garcés III of Pamplona. In 996, it appears in another document with the name of Castro Rota and a century later, in 1195, it appears with the same name when it was repopulated by King Alfonso IX , On May 21, 1636 the privilege of Villa or City was granted to Rueda, in addition of seven other privileges that draw the legal framework that will develop the City life at Rueda. During the War of Independence it was occupied by French troops and then it was the headquarters of the Duke of Wellington, The Rueda economy revolves around the wine being the main source of wealth of the people. Some of the better wineries here in addtion to the other mentioned are Bodegas Mocen, SA , Bodegas de los Herederos del Marqués de Riscal, S.L. Bodegas Félix Sanz ,S.A., Domecq Wines España, S.A. Grupo Yllera and Bodega Ramón Bilbao at Rueda
