The City of Ávila is the capital of the province of Avila in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León in the kingdom of Spain. It is located 105 km from Salamanca, 70 km from Segovia, 115 km from Madrid, and 126 km from our house rental in Velliza, All on the A62, A6 and N403 to City center.

The main museum of the city is the Avila Museum, opened in 1911. The museum consists of two locations: the Casa de los Deanes, a 16C Renaissance palace that functions as the main headquarters and the former church of Santo Tomé (see pics), originally raised in the 12C, which is used as a visible warehouse,, The collections are included in three major sections: a representative of the rural culture of the province, another that collects pieces found in Abulense territory from prehistory to the 19C and finally a dedicated exclusively to Archaeological pieces found in urban excavations of the city of Ávila, The Avila Museum in Casa de los Deanes, and church of Santo Tomé, Plaza Nalvillos, 3

The Almacén Visitable or visitable warehouse of the museum is in the former Romanesque church of Santo Tomé. The church, raised in the 12C, although very renovated in the 16C with wide interior arches, maintains the original walls, facade, and capitals. Then, without cult in the 18C, it served as bread basket of the canons’s council, and confiscated in the 19C, passed to private hands. In the 20C, it was the garage España, until the State acquired it in 1964.

The bullfighting collection of the Marquis de Benavites can be highlighted, which includes the Roman mosaic of Magazos, the sepulcher of the gentleman of Serranos de la Torre, the work of Vasco de la Zarza, and the verracos of Martiherrero.

The Avila Museum is a cultural space. Its origin as a centennial museum institution dates back to 1911. Since 1987 it has been managed by the Junta de Castilla y León. Among its funds are pieces and works of archeology and beautiful arts, in addition to a wide ethnological catalog of the area. The main building of the museum is the Casa de los Deanes, Renaissance palace of the 16C, where the deanes of the cathedral resided, to whose neighborhood belonged. The house is distributed square around the central courtyard. They highlight its original facade, two -story adintelated with attached columns, as a Italian gallery, topped with pinnacles between lunetos; and the patio, with unique brick arches on granite columns. In both champion the canons’ council shield, emblem of the first users.
