The Church San Pedro of Avila !!!

We were back to my dear Spain again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see new areas and old repeat with some of them as introduction to my sons and our dog Rex ! I rented a small house in a off the beaten path country town that was just perfect ! The City of Ávila is the capital of the province of Avila in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León in the kingdom of Spain. It is located 105 km from Salamanca, 70 km from Segovia, 115 km from Madrid, and 126 km from our house rental in Velliza, All on the A62, A6 and N403 to City center,

The Church San Pedro (St Peter) is of Romanesque style, located in the Plaza del Mercado Grande, front of the Puerta del Alcázar of the wall of Ávila. The first reference is found in a document of 1103, and would have been built around 1130 ,went thru some works in the 13C and 14C. The church has a Latin cross plant, with three naves that end in three apses, being the highest ,the central nave than the sides. The three entrance doors are Romanesque, on the western side or the bottom highlights a great rosette on the facade. The set is surrounded by a landscaped and enlased space. The facade is apiramidated and presents a great rosette in its central part. It presides over the Plaza de Santa Teresa, aka Plaza del Mercado Grande. Inside, among other works of art, with statues of Santa Catalina and San Pablo. The statue below of Santa Teresa on top mention all the Saints of Avila.

It has a basilical three naves, apsides show the highest and deepest central, it is covered with half -cannon and baking vaults; The three externally decorated with columns dividing the semicircle into three streets with half -point arc windows with archivol on columns and spilled both beams. The facade, in a rampement or triangular way, expresses by means of buttresses the three naves, illuminated the lateral overlook, the central with the advanced cover between the irruptions, with half -point archivolts; Above, registered between archivoltes also with a large point rosette (13C) for the central nave lighting. Another facade is arranged on the side of the epistle, focused with half point archivolts on columns with figurative capitals. In front, on the north side, another one, decorated with saw teeth and diamond tips. Romanesque windows, with archivolts and chess decoration, illuminate central and lateral naves.

The tower rises attached to the north arm of the cruise,and square ; the sacristy on the opposite side, square plant. Inside, several medieval graves, the Baroque main altarpiece (1714), another Plateresco (1536) and two cruise altarpieces (1575) with sculptures of alabaster, and series of paintings on portraits (1497-1514). The Atrio Praise (1527) is reformed.
