We were back to my dear Spain again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see new areas and old repeat with some of them as introduction to my sons and our dog Rex ! I rented a small house in a off the beaten path country town that was just perfect ! I like to continue the saga of our new road warrior experiences even if now with less in our family, This post is on my latest road warrior tour of wonderful sublime Spain. Therefore, let me tell you about the Church Saint Martin of Salamanca !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The City of Salamanca is capital of the province of Salamanca located in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León, and in the kingdom of Spain. In 1988, the Old City was declared a World Heritage for UNESCO, The City is located 109 km from Ávila, 121 km from Valladolid, 123 km from Portugal and 214 km from Madrid.
The Plaza del Corrillo is a small square attached to the Plaza Mayor. On the left is the Romanesque Church of San Martín and on the right a series of houses with supports formed by stone columns finished in shoes that represent the days of the week (a moon for Monday, a Mars for Tuesday, etc.).

The Church San Martín is of the Spanish Romanesque. The Church was built on a hermitage dedicated to Saint Peter in the 12C, specifically in the year 1103 at the initiative of Count Martín Fernández, in the neighborhood of Los Toresanos, during the repopulation of the city led by Raimundo de Burgundy by order of King Alfonso VI de León. At that time, in 1173,it was called the Church San Martín del Mercado or San Martín de la Plaza, At present the church consists of two accesses: the Romanesque cover or Puerta del Obispo, and the Renaissance cover. Originally there were three, but the central has been converted in the Capilla Camarín chapel, dedicated to Our Lady of the Angustias, to whose interior it is only accessed from inside the church
The interior of the Church San Martín shows one of the most revealing images of the effects that the Great Lisbon earthquake of 1755 had in many of Salamanca’s monumental buildings. Due to the tremor, many of the church stones must be during a second fraction in the air, enough for the pillars to incline and the dovelas of arches and vaults fell in a place that was not exactly the one they occupied even that moment, so that today walls and arched pillars, arches and deformed nerves are observed, The church has a three -nave plant ending in circular apses. Of the three the most relevant is that it occupies half, The Church San Martin does not have an dome or spire, and one of its main attractions is the choir, which dates back to the 16C and is Isabelino style. The main altarpiece was developed by Joaquín de Churriguera , The Capilla de Poniente (western), previously dedicated to the Virgen de las Angustias and now to that of Carmen, was resolved with dome on scalp that was a chapel of the Count of Grajal, founded in 1413, amended in 1784.
