We were back to my dear Spain again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see new areas and old repeat with some of them as introduction to my sons and our dog Rex ! I rented a small house in a off the beaten path country town that was just perfect ! I like to continue the saga of our new road warrior experiences even if now with less in our family, This post is on my latest road warrior tour of wonderful sublime Spain. Therefore, let me tell you about the Mercado del Abasto of Salamanca !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The City of Salamanca is capital of the province of Salama nca located in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León, and in the kingdom of Spain. In 1988, the Old City was declared a World Heritage for UNESCO, The City is located 109 km from Ávila, 121 km from Valladolid, 123 km from Portugal and 214 km from Madrid.
The Mercado Central de Salamanca , or Mercado de Abastos as I know it is located in the center of the Plaza del Mercado adjacent to the Plaza Mayor by the portals of San Antonio. It was done from 1899 to 1909. Inside, the typical ingredients of the gastronomy of the province of Salamanca are offered for sale. The market was restored in 2001. It is large and very nice, clean with wonderful products indeed,

The market is located in the origins of the 13C in the square called Azogue Viejo next to the old Cathedral. After time the market moves to the square that was around the church of San Martín in the middle of the Plaza de San Martín name prior to the current Plaza Mayor ,that was a large square. During the period from 1729 to 1756 there was the construction of the square as it is currently. Finally, it opens on April 15, 1909.

The market building has a 40 -meter rectangular plant, on the north and south side, for 44 meters, in the east and west, the facade lines are broken with projections in the corners and doors. It is formed on two floors; the uppper floor formed by an armor of metallic beams , which start from the corners and intermediate points starts of the facades and converge in a rectangular body raised as a lucernarium, supported on twelve casting columns. From that body other beams end in another rectangular body roofed of lower dimensions.. The decoration resorts to classicism so rooted in the city, thus the main door evokes an arc of triumph, and the openings of the main floor are half a point.
