We were back to my dear Spain again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see new areas and old repeat with some of them as introduction to my sons and our dog Rex ! I rented a small house in a off the beaten path country town that was just perfect ! I like to continue the saga of our new road warrior experiences even if now with less in our family, This post as an introductory to my latest road warrior tour of wonderful sublime Spain, Therefore, this is Geria !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The village of Geria is in the province of Valladolid, and in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León of the kingdom of Spain. It has a population of approximately 508 inhabitants. It is located 19 km from Valladolid, and 7 km of Villeza, You can get here off the A62 taking the VP 5806 towards Simancas and Villeza and VP-5803, which allows connection with Robladillo. The town stands at 719 meters above sea level.
The story here is that I passed this village several times always on my road warrior trip out of our rental house in Velliza to everywhere else, We notice there was a bakery here and went for it, happens it was closed and passing we saw the church, So something to tell you about Geria,
The Church Nuestra Señora de la Asunción or Our Lady of the Assumption is from the time of the new world discovery, with a single nave, with a chapel on the side of the Gospel. Built in Gothic Stone style, where its only nave is covered by a starring vault. The tower is not the first but the third, which rose in 1650, but the spire is not the original either. The altarpiece was conducted in the mid -16C; Francisco Velasco, a local artist, made the centerpiece of the Virgen de la Asunción. From the mid -18C, it is the group of piety. The most valued work is in the presbytery, it is a beautiful Renaissance altarpiece (16C), one of the most beautiful of Torozos, where the paintings of Luis Aguirre and the sculpture of Jerónimo de Amberes, and Cobos de Flandes highlight the harmony of the set.

Some of the interesting things to see here are, well in the 16C, it counted with between 6 hermitages: Santa Catherina, San Sebastián, San Pablo, Santa Poland, San Blas and the hermitage of the Christ of the Humilladero, the latter is the only hermitage that it currently has. It is a square plant building, with a masonry stone, with front porch held by two columns. In front there is a stone cross, with the date of 1694. See more on my posts on Velliza as it is share limits, The village has an archaeological site – called “the mosquila” – in which there is a medieval necropolis.
A bit of history tell us that the Muslims were the ones who gave the name of Geria. The original word was evolving, suffering a series of transformations, through different spellings: Xeria, Jeria until it flows into the current Geria.
