Great pleasure in bringing you back to my dear Spain! Again, this is something new and thrill to tell you as it was one of stumping grounds working from my branch office there for several years , I am having great emotions reviving these wonderful memories! Thanks for those who have follow me thru the years , appreciated. Let me tell you about this is Rivas Vaciamadrid !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.
The City of Rivas-Vaciamadrid is in the Community of Madrid, kingdom of Spain, It is next to the A-3 (Autovia del Este). Three quarters of the City are part of the Parque Regional del Sudeste or Southeast Regional Park. There, among the gypsum plasters, the Jarama and Manzanares rivers. The City borders the north with Madrid (Vicálvaro district) and with San Fernando de Henares, to the south with Arganda del Rey, Getafe and San Martín de la Vega, to the east with Mejorada del Campo and Velilla of San Antonio, and to the west with Madrid ( Districts of Vicálvaro and Villa de Vallecas). It is located 15 km from Madrid and 21 km from Alcalá de Henares.
However, as said, this City was the base of our bigger branch in Spain from the world HQ in the Morbihan of France I came on management duties to check on them Finance wise, The locals always treated me nicely and wonderful memories, They always took me to their hangout to have lunch at Palacio Criollo, an Argentinian steakhouse. I had my fills there on different dishes each time ,memorable the bife chorizo steak, very good and tender, with the cruzcampo beers and coffee, great experience even if for most visitors this is a bit far off, worth the efforts , me think, Recommended, The official Palacio Criollo: http://www.palaciocriollo.es/

Its most significant things to see are the Church of San Marcos; the City Hall building; the Church or Hermitage and Palace-Convent of the Cristo deRivas, the convent Baroque, and the 17C the whole; Every September 29, for centuries, a pilgrimage that reaches the hermitage of the Cristo de Rivas takes place. The Palacio del Negralejo, 19C, today dedicated to the hospitality; and the puente metálico or metallic bridge for the old Arganda train. The archaeological zone known as Casa Eulogio , the Castillo de Rivas del Jarama, located on the hill to whose foot the hermitage is found and of which only a few vestiges remain.
Rivas-Vaciamadrid has three Metro stations, one the Rivas-Urbanizations: located in the Covibar neighborhood. Then, Rivas Futura, located in the New Construction neighborhood of the same name near the H2O Shopping Center. And Rivas-Vaciamadrid: located between the A-3 and the area commonly called Rivas-Pueblo, which includes the historic center of Rivas-Vaciamadrid. The City can be accessed by: A-3: on salidas or exits 12 (Rivas-Vaciamadrid West), 17 (Centro) and 19 (Historic District-Rivas-Vaciamadrid Este) which is reached from the center of Madrid or from the beltways of the M-30, M-40, M-45 or M-50 ring roads. The M-203, a secondary road that joins Rivas-Vaciamadrid West with Coslada, San Fernando de Henares and the Madrid district of Vicálvaro through the former settlement of Rivas de Jarama. It has different interurban bus lines of the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid ( CRTM) I know from Conde de Casal in Madrid, However, always have come here with driver from to Madrid City proper.
Some anecdotes from Rivas Vaciamadrid also tell us that the city was crossed by the old narrow railway from Madrid to Arganda, later known as Tajuña railroad. Much of its line has been used for the surface section of Madrid Metro line 9, which takes Arganda del Rey. Currently a tourist railway circulates in a stretch of about three kilometers of the old Tajuña railroad, from the Laguna del Campillo (of Rivas-Vaciamadrid) to the old station of La Poveda (from Arganda del Rey). Much of the route runs through the city of Rivas-Vaciamadrid, bordering the lagoon and marching at the foot of the gypsifers, until you reach the railway bridge over the Jarama River. A vapor locomotive from 1925, Arganda locomotive, heads the town’s tourist train every spring and autumn on Sundays. This machine was built in Germany by the Henschel & Sohn house, and was designed for industrial railways, due to its limited maximum speed (20 kph). Another one is the fact that one of the most historic clubs is Osos de Rivas, dean team of American Football. Several times national champion in the First Division, and participant in several European championships, with great tradition in the city, with teams in all categories, female and contactless (Flag Football), one of the most important schools in the country. Also, one I know well from following the sport there since played as teen they have a very good Baseball and Softball teams, very popular sports. Its maximum representative, Baseball Club and Softball of Rivas Vaciamadrid competes in the First Division A of the National Baseball League.
A bit of history tell us that Rivas was built in 1100 by Captain Guillermo de Ribas, at the initiative of the Council of Segovia, using his last name as a name for the new villa. It was part of the Bishopric of Segovia until 1190 when Alfonso IX took it for himself, The town of Rivas incorporated in 1845 The old Vaciamadrid, entity belongs to the town of Villa de Vallecas, the name Vaciamadrid comes from the Arabic faḥṣ maŷrit, which means ,so says the experts “Field of Madrid”, Being in that place, in the Andalusian era, some of the cultivation fields that supplied the population of Madrid. With the centuries, forgotten their original meaning, both words were confused with the expression “Va hacia Madrid” or goes to Madrid It was mostly destroyed during the Spanish Civil War , for its location in the front and giving space to the battle of Jarama, until It was built again in 1954.
