This is another memorable town for my family, Las Majadas. We first came here in 2016, as my dear late wife Martine wanted to see something else than Madrid ! we love it !!! as well as getting her used to Madrid lol ! Our summer family vacation are the biggest time away from home for us on the typical French trails. We came back to the same place in 2017, and was again wonderful if only she got sick needed to return earlier and it was the end of our vacation time together, you know the sad story. I have posts on the rental house so this will be on the town of Las Majadas in the Serrania de Cuenca about 1400 meters up and 36 km from the Unesco World Heritage site of Cuenca. The town of Las Majadas is very friendly and easy to walk, with great pathways into the mountains for the courageous runner/walker/hiker is a paradise. We tucked in the city and the great bars and restos in it. Sad to hear the bakery has close down and now bread is deliver after 10h at the local school. We were at 1400 meters altitude (about 4593 feet) and the driving down and up is winding and zig zag’s roads with gorgeous mountains views with lookout stops along the way to enjoy the scenery more.
I give you some memorable spots which I took pictures of, These are :
The hotel restaurant Los Callejones was close to the house and our first meal out was here! Country folks, very friendly like family welcome and great local traditional food. A simple 11 rooms and 4 aparts hotel but an even better restaurant! Where you can taste the migajas or crumbs, the gazpacho, and the famous gachas or porridge.
The bar meson El Cerrillo which is now closed but wonderful meals with good people and great food, here for the memories of always
The bar El Cuco now also, closed but memories of wonderful glasses of beer and wine here with the family, memories of always
Apartment La Utrera obviously did not stay but always a thought for a change of pace eventually, still there pic for the memories,
The Casa Meson Raquel ,this was locally recommended to eat and it was a hit again and again, traditional dishes in a rural ambiance tops, Still there
As we rented a house here we went often for quick convenience grocery items to the Ultramarinos store, Could not confirm if close or still open, However, very convenient for groceries when at night you are at 1400 meters in the mountains,
And during daytime, you can always bring your stuff to the park with barbecue faciliites for all in town , great country place high in the mountains of the Serrania de Cuenca, memories forever !!!
In all, it was a great place to be at. We are always talking about Las Majadas, it will stay with me forever ; do not know when have the courage to be back ,but it will be eventually, time and memories will lingered forever. For now, I and the boys have the wonderful memories and trips around the area and remembrance. Las Majadas, Province of Cuenca, autonomous community of Castilla La Mancha in the Serrania de Cuenca mountains of my kingdom of Spain, will always be a home.
