The Puerta de Hierro of Madrid !!!

I am going over paper bags of older paper pictures from me and my parents and found me several that should be in my blog, They are part of the memories of always and travel fun times over the years, I am taking you back to my Madrid, many posts on this sentimental city. Madrid puerta de Hierro c1997

I have indeed walk up to this wonderful historical gate and also, a lot more times drove around it, Even , lately I entry to the city by car is by here! Of course, I will not stop telling you the wonderful experiences in Madrid over the years since my teens. The Puerta de Hierro or Steel Gate lies on the outskirts of the city, all up Calle de la Princesa at the end of the beltway to the Pardo forest. On a baroque style architecture following French and Italian ideas of the time, which got the gate done in an circular arch and an original wrought-iron lattice.

It was erected as an entrance to El Pardo site, a hunting area historically reserved for the Spanish monarchy. It was built between 1751 and 1753, during the reign of Fernando VI, the gate is not currently in its original location. In 1991 stone by stone was dismantled and transferred to an islet near its primitive enclave, to facilitate the expansion of the A-6 road. (My entrance to Madrid), It made in white stone of Colmenar de Oreja and granite, consists of a half -point of slender proportions, topped by a pediment and held by two buttres separated from the arc. A wrought iron fence joins the different architectural elements. Decorated with military and hunting ornaments in bas -reliefs located in the buttresses, the royal shield stands between the fronton, flanked by two stringing sphinxes, such as the beautiful vases of which a plummer in flames sprouts that crowns the monument. The Puerta de Hierro is located close to the Ciudad Universitaria. Today, the location lies between two highways (beltway M-30 and the A6 to Coruña)   and difficult to reach, as said dare once younger, nowdays is just passing by car. By bus 83 from Vaguada mall seems to be the best, 650 meters to Puerta de Hierro,

There you go folks, this is a wonderful feeling each time entering Madrid lately and memories forever of my dear city. Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
