The Banco Hispano Americano (BHA) founded in 1901 with repatriated money from Cuba after the Spanish -American War of 1898, its name owes to a private Spanish bank that operated during much of the 20C, becoming in its time one of the most important financial institutions in Spain. In 1991, the bank agreed with the Banco Central, whose union was born by the Banco Central Hispanoamericano (BCH), It today part of the Banco Santander Group since 1999. Its creation was in charge of a group of investors in Mexico in the textile, coriaceo, agricultural and rail sector. Among the group were the families Zaldo and Ibáñez, who had also prospered in Cuba.In 1976 the details for the absorptions of Banco Mercantil y Industrial and Banco de Gijón were finalized. That same year bank with Banco Urquijo created a society for the promotion and management of Spanish commercial and industrial operations in Iran. In 1984, the Ministry of Economy and Finance awarded the Banco del Norte, as a result of the reprivatization of the Rumasa Group. The Banco Hispano Americano building was located in the corner of Plaza de Canelejas with.Carrera de San Jeronimo streets, now in the buiding of Galeria Canalejas (see post).

The Church Nuestra Señora de Montserrat of baroco style is located on the Calle de San Bernardo, part of Conde Duque district It was founded by Felipe IV to host the Castilian monks from the Monastery of Montserrat who came from the insurrection in Catalonia. The Monastery of Montserrat was the main Benedictine center of Catalonia although it belonged to the Castilian jurisdiction of Valladolid since 1493, when Fernando the Catholic sent 14 monks of Valladolid and made the monastery become dependent on the congregation of this Castilian city. The Catalan monks, who were upset that their abbot was almost always Castilian, took advantage of the insurrection to violently expel the Castilian monks, The church currently has the nave and its chapels that were not finished. The stylistic approach of the nave corresponds to an evolved phase of the Spanish baroque of the 17C, consisting of the contribution of Pedro de Ribera in the ornamental coating (another of his work is the Conde Duque Cultural Center -see post). On July 25, 1835, a decree of the Queen abolished all religious houses with less than twelve religious. Montserrat was closed alongside other Spanish convents and monasteries. The monastery became in 1837 in prison for women with the nickname of the Galera house, with which it would be known during the 19C, It currently has some artistic works of merit, highlighting a great anonymous canvas of the 18C of curious immaculist iconography and the stature of the titular Virgin. At the feet there is a copy of the Christ of Burgos, 18C.The paintings of the vaults, stories of the life of San Benito, were made at the beginning of the18C time when the Benedictines were informed the death of the founder. The church is currently occupied by the Benedictines of Santo Domingo de Silos there since 1914, having the status of Priory. It also houses a residence for seniors.
