This is Sunrise !!!

Well ,again, browsing thru my blog realise some special places were lost in other posts and really they deserve a post of their own, These wonderful towns of my nostalgic Florida where I spent many days playing, eating and sightseeing with the family, This has brought lots of memories and thrills to relook these family trips, Therefore, here is my take on this is Sunrise !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The town of Sunrise is in my former Broward County,of my dear Florida, situated approximately 24 miles north of Miami, 11 miles from Fort Lauderdale, and 21 miles from my former home.  The site of Sawgrass International Corporate Park at 612 acres, the largest corporate park in South Florida. In 1990, the first phase of Sawgrass Mills opened in Sunrise. Due to its continued popularity and expansion, the shopping and entertainment center has grown to almost 2.7 million square feet. Air France’s United States reservations call center is located in the Sawgrass Technology Park The City has close proximity to the Florida Turnpike and I-95, and bordered by the Sawgrass Expressway, I-75 and I-595 highways we love to do too, We lived west of I-75 !!

However, the one thing ,we came almost every weekend while living in Miramar Silver Lakes was Sawgrass Mills shopping center. The state’s second-biggest tourist attraction after Walt Disney World!! Its 400+ name brand retail stores include Off 5th/Saks Fifth Avenue, Last Call! Neiman Marcus, Kenneth Cole and Nordstrom Rack, etc. This is a huge shopping/eating/entertainment city in a mall! One of our favorite store was Books A Million ,well they were several and some have closed but this one have a picture!

Another favorite place was the family restaurant my dear late wife Martine love was TGIFridays , many memories here, and sadly it has closed. Nevertheless, here for the memories of always, TGIF started in Manhattan (NYC) in 1965 and my fav location was near Sawgrass Mill Mall in Sunrise, just north of my old home.  Located near West Sunrise Blvd & Yellow Toucan Rd, proudly bringing you the best local mix of food, fun, and handcrafted cocktails. Many times here with the family! Sawgrass Mills shopping center is huge, I mean huge  ,one of the biggest if not the biggest mall in the USA, and Florida’s largest.

The National Car Rental Center ,then BB&T Center , and now the Amerant Bank Arena next door to Sawgrass Mills Mall is the home of the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League, and hosts top entertainers and events.

A bit of history tell us that in 1960, Iowa-born developer Norman Johnson paid $9 million USD for 2,650 acres of land in southwestern Broward County. By 1961, this community of 1.75 square miles ,which Johnson named Sunrise Golf Village . In 1971, the City, by referendum, changed its name to the City of Sunrise. The City is situated approximately 6 miles from Fort Lauderdale, and is adjoined by the towns of Weston, Davie, Tamarac, Lauderhill, and Plantation.
