Let me take you to the Rosaleda in the Retiro park of Madrid, part II !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The city of Madrid is the capital of the kingdom of Spain, and located in the Comunidad de Madrid region From my latest escapes it is 211 km from Valladolid City , 198 km from our rental house in Velliza, 183 km from Tordesillas, 172 km from Rueda, 159 km from Medina del Campo, and 199 km from Simancas, We made long walks all over the City , and took the metro when necessary, three times. I love to tell you of our latest escape to the wonderful City, for the memories of always and return, eventually. This is another must for me while in the City it is huge and beautiful wonderful nature in the center of Madrid with many things to do and see ! I should mention all of these areas in my previous posts are within the Paisajes de la Luz Unesco World Heritage Site and of course the Retiro park!
The Rosaleda del Retiro was designed in 1915 by the major gardener of the Villa, Cecilio Rodríguez ; he was inspired by the Bagatelle’s Rosaleda in the Bois de Boulogne in Paris ! To create La Rosaleda, which was the most important landscaped area he designed ,roses were planted that arrived from several European gardens and at the time of its creation, it was called Rosería. In the place where it was located was a great greenhouse that had belonged to the Marqués de Salamanca. Previously, there was a pond that became ice rink in winter. The Rosaleda was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War, 4,000 Rosales were replanted in 1941. It has been completely restored, recovering aged roses in addition to repairing existing metal structures,

The roses arranged in a circular space around the cold stove, a greenhouse of exotic plants that had belonged to the Marqués de Salamanca , the cold stove and two fountains of the palace, that of the Fauno and that of Cupido, were bought by the City/town hall and installed in La Rosaleda. (see post), The Rosaleda del Retiro is located in the area where the Paseo de los Coches is curved towards the west. It has a symmetrical configuration, of elliptical layout. It has a couple of fountains as above in the major diameter of said ellipse, in addition to a network of roads around which the splints are distributed. It is surrounded by various hedges and has metallic pergolas in the form of arches. La Rosaleda has 5,570 specimens of 130 different species of low and climbing rose, The best months are May to June, but you see blooms all year except of bad weather.

Its location is very close to the famous Fuente del Angel Caido (see post), in the southern zone of this huge green space. You can access it from the Paseo de Uruguay and from the Paseo de Fernán Núñez, Even better go to it from the Puerta Mariano de Cavia (see post) , closest metro Menendez Pelayo or Estacion del Arte ,line 1 and bus lines 26, 63, 152 , and C2 on public transport.
