We are back to my dear Madrid again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see old repeats as never tired of them in my Madrid! I came again with my boys and dog Rex, and it was a thrill as usual! I like to tell you more of Madrid to heaven and a hole in the sky to look down on it everyday !!! Let me take you to the Campo Grande in the Retiro park of Madrid !!! Sit back and enjoy with me the next several posts ; and hope you enjoy it as I,

The city of Madrid is the capital of the kingdom of Spain, and located in the Comunidad de Madrid region From my latest escapes it is 211 km from Valladolid City , 198 km from our rental house in Velliza, 183 km from Tordesillas, 172 km from Rueda, 159 km from Medina del Campo, and 199 km from Simancas, We made long walks all over the City , and took the metro when necessary, three times. I love to tell you of our latest escape to the wonderful City, for the memories of always and return, eventually. This another must for me while in the City it is huge and beautiful wonderful nature in the center of Madrid with many things to do and see !

This time walking from our parking I got my boys thru a new entry to the Retiro Park, This is the Puerta Mariano de Cavia that is on the side that gives to the Avenida Menéndez Pelayo, corner with Calle Esteban de Villegas. It has access stairs since there is an important slope on this site so good footing is needed, the gate is covered in brick with its corresponding iron door. There is a plaque on the gate with the figure of Mariano de Cavia, a very important journalist in his time concerned about the purity of Spanish. At present, the ABC newspaper annually grants the Mariano de Cavia award.

I,also, took them to a new spot in the wonderfully huge Parque del Buen Retiro!!

The Campo Grande or big field, a landscape paysagiste and seeing the land and trees around it nothing remind you of the wasteland used as a minor hunting preserve with great abundance of hares. Then ,it also had a navigable channel, called El Mallo, which, born in the Entanque or big pond, toured it through its northern ends, east and south until it reached the hermitage of San Antonio de los Portuguese, the greatest of the good retreat and which was demolished to take advantage of the site and build in it the Royal Porcelain Factory of China. This, in turn, was occupied by the French during the War of Independence (1808-1814) and destroyed when the English blew it, later erecting, instead, the Fuente del Angel Caido (see post) or fallen angel. It would be during the reign of Isabel II, when the Campo Grande would be populated with trees that would be arranged geometrically through walks that would cross it diagonally and that, in the places of crossing ,they would form circular squares. In 1870, various modifications are carried out in the El Retiro set in order to place some English gardens inside, of which it lacked until then, and increase its woodland, reaching the turn for the Campo Grande in 1878, when its geometric lines are modified to, thanks to the existing slopes, open curved walks, place meadows and create a estuary of irregular shapes, thus adopting the landscape character that it has maintained so far. At the end of the 19C, on the occasion of the National Mining Exhibition held in 1883 and, subsequently, with the Philippines of 1887, the land would be again modified with the construction of the Palacio de Velázquez and Palacio de Cristal (see posts), in addition to the pond of the latter palace last. In the center of El Retiro , the Campo Grande is delimited to the north by the Paseo de Venezuela, which separates it from the big pond; to the east, on the Paseo de Fernán Núñez; to the south, by the Paseo de Uruguay; and to the west, for the Paseo de la República de Cuba.
