We are back to my dear Spain again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see new areas and old repeat as could not be in Spain without stopping in my Madrid! I came again with my boys and dog Rex, and it was a thrill as usual! I like to tell you more of Madrid to heaven and a hole in the sky to look down on it everyday !!! The city of Madrid is the capital of the kingdom of Spain, and located in the Comunidad de Madrid region From my latest escapes it is 211 km from Valladolid City , 198 km from our rental house in Velliza, 183 km from Tordesillas, 172 km from Rueda, 159 km from Medina del Campo, 199 km from Simancas, We made long walks all over the City , and took the metro when necessary, three times. I love to tell you of our latest escape to the wonderful City, for the memories of always and return, eventually.

One of the wonderful buildings of Madrid which even I have not seen it all but in two brief moments is the General Headquarters of the Spanish Army ! Oh yes this in the Palace of Buenavista!  Let me tell you a bit on it as it can be visited with prior reservation,

The Palacio Buenavista or Good Sight Palace, currently the headquarters of the Army, is located in the Barrio de Justicia, within the Centro district framed between the streets of Alcalá, Prim, Barquillo and the Paseo de Recoletos. The first building dates from the 16C, when the Archbishop of Toledo, D. Gaspar de Quiroga gives the property to Felipe II. King Felipe III receives it in his father inheritance inhabiting it sporadically and finally selling it. Since then it has several owners until in 1777 the XIII Duchess of Alba, María Pilar Teresa Cayetana de Silva and Álvarez de Toledo, along with the architect Juan Pedro Arnal, builds the new palace with its current neoclassical design.

Its rooms, decorated with beautiful tapestries and carpets from the Royal Tapestry Factory of Santa Bárbara, founded in 1720 by Felipe V, retain the flavor and good taste of the personalities that inhabited it. Of their walls they hang paintings of great masters; on its ceilings, lamps of the Royal La Granja Factory; And about their furniture, Louis XV, XVI and Empire, rich porcelains rest with an impressive collection of watches that mark the inexorable passage of time.

Witness of the great events of our country, an important center of power, visited it is to make a long trip through the history of Spain and the army. The rooms that are avalaible for a visit are the Honor Stair and lobby, Assistant room, JEM’s office, (chief military officer),Teniers room,Goya Hall,Hearing room, Battles room, Lost steps prelude (antichamber), Gala dining room, Quijote Hall , Prim hall, Ambassadors Hall, and the Gardens, You need to make the application through the email : paiodebuenavista@mde.eswhere a form will be provided to be included in the waiting list, pending authorization. Once the visit is authorized, the applicant will be communicated the date and time, by the same route. Be patient takes time but worth it me think.

A bit of history I like tell us that it is linked to the Army from 1816, in principle as a Military Museum, it becomes the Ministry of War in 1847, of the Army in 1939 and Defense from 1977 to 1981.Witness of much of the history of Spain from the 16C, the Palacio de Buenavista was occupied by leading personage in the history of Spain such as XIII Duchess of Alba, General Espartero (Regent of the Kingdom), General Prim (who dies in it after suffering an attack), Mr. Miguel Primo de Rivera (President of the Military Directory) and Mr, Manuel Azaña (who was Minister of War and later President of the Second Republic).

My background comes all the way from Candelaria and Pajara in Tenerife, Spain where my grandparents came from ;not knowing each other then, to Punta Brava, west of Havana, Cuba. There , my parents born in Cuba met and later on I was born there too. 100% guanche (annexed Tenerife to Spain on April 10 ,1496). I left Cuba as many have to Madrid, Spain where I lived for 4 years. Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
