We are back to my dear Spain again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see new areas and old repeat with some of them as introduction to my sons and our dog Rex ! I came into Tordesillas after several years and it was sublime ! I like to continue my road warrior stories this time in Tordesillas, Therefore, here is my take on the Church Santa Maria of Tordesillas !!! Sadly this one was closed when we arrived. Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The town of Tordesillas is located in the province of Valladolid and the autonomous community of Castilla y Léon in the kingdom of Spain, It is 33 km from Valladolid City , 11 km from our rental house in Velliza, and 183 km from Madrid, We walked all over the small town, and saw wonderful monuments. I like to keep them in my blog for the memories of always and return, eventually.
The Church of Santa María la Mayor de la Asunción was Gothic, but at the end of the 16C it is rethink in Classicist style, emanating from El Escorial. It is believe that the Church rises over the old town mosque. Therefore, the header and first two bodies of the tower are of Gothic style and the rest of the Escurialense style, and their modifications reach the 18C. It is the largest church in the town, built in stone and brick. It has a single nerf with three covers. The tower, square base, constitutes the lookout point of Tordesillas due to its high height. It has a valuable main altarpiece in the center the size of the assumption, with dressing room that can be accessed also has several canvases, some signed. The church has a baroque organ of the 18C. Today, it is the siege of several cofradias or brotherhoods of the Holy Week of Tordesillas where processional steps are kept, such as the Virgen de la Soledad or the Cristo de la Misericordia.(Christ of Mercy).

The left door was reduced in height to install the baroque organ of the 18th century and the cover that was at the feet of the church is blinded and instead there is a vain to illuminate the low choir. The tower, square base, constitutes the vigía point of tordesillas due to its high height. It was built between the 16th and 18th centuries with a gothic base and classical evolution. During the Napoleonic invasion it was used as a surveillance basis by Spanish troops. In the upper part of the tower is a clock, “the loose clock”, with bronze allegories of the seasons of the year in its mechanism, which serves to announce at parties in honor of the Virgen de la Peña, patron saint of the town, and the beginning of different celebrations. It has a valuable major altarpiece in 1655 classicist, At the feet of the church is the low choir with noble wood starker carved with jaculatory to the Virgin. In one of its side chapels is the image of one of the patrons of the town, the Virgen de la Guia or Guide, during the middle of the year in which the church is the parish headquarters of the town.
