The City of Valladolid is in the province of Valladolid, in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y Léon, only 202 km from from Madrid. This is huge and beautiful worth the detour me think and we will be back, eventually.

The Teatro Calderón (theater) is the main theater in the city of Valladolid. This theater is called after Calderón de la Barca, an important Spanish poet and playwright. It is located in the city center, of eclectic design and neoclassical trend, In the space where today the theater is located, the Palace of the Admiral of Castile, a large building of low -origin of which there is little information and that was totally demolished to build the current theater until the mid -19C.

The Teatro Calderon opened on September 28, 1864 with the representation of the work of Calderón de la Barca, El alcalde de Zalamea or the mayor of Zalamea. It consists of a large supporter on Angustias and large windows, and inside a majestic room, in the form of an Italian horseshoe, with a armchair, low boxes, stalls, amphitheater, gallery and paradise or chicken coop. It is decorated with luxurious paintings. The side lamps, of modernist style, date from the beginning of the 20C. It had capacity for about 1200 people. The sumptuousness and magnitude of the building made it one of the main ones in Spain.  Between the 19C and 20C, the tenor Julián Gayarre sang, works of the company of María Guerrero and Tomás Breton were represented more than one concert.

It underwent a deep remodeling, after a series of issues in its history, on April 9, 1999 it is again reopened by S. M. Queen Doña Sofía, the main hall to which a lamp held by the Royal Factory of Glass of the Granja de San Ildefonso. Since its reopening in 1999 it was the headquarters of the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra (OSCYL), but since April 2007, the orchestra headquarters are located in the new Miguel Delibes auditorium of the city. In 2001, the II International Congress of the Spanish Language was held in the Teatro Calderon. In the present it has capacity for 1141 persons, and hosts during the season representations of theater, opera, zarzuela, dance, ballet, flamenco and jazz in addition to being the headquarters of the International Film Week of Valladolid (Seminci). But its dependencies are not limited to the theater, but also has an exhibition hall, the Delibes room and its lounge of mirrors, places where non -stage activities are held.
