We are back to my dear Spain again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see new areas and old repeat with some of them as introduction to my sons and our dog Rex ! I came into Valladolid after several years and it was sublime ! I like to continue my road warrior stories with Valladolid. Therefore, here is my take on the National Sculptures Museum of Valladolid !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The City of Valladolid is in the province of Valladolid, in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y Léon, only 202 km from from Madrid. In my walking warrior mode, came upon this building who happened to be a palace and a nice exhibition going on so here is my take on it.
The Palace of Villena belonged to several owners. Now, it is an annexed building at the National Sculptures Museum , that houses the Neapolitan crèche. The exterior presents the base, the corners and the central body worked in stone and a large entrance arch with large segments. The lateral dungeons were made in the 19C. The interior is organized around a patio, with two arcature floors out of three of its sides, with full semicircular arches on the columns with an ion marquee. The staircase has three sections and is covered with primitive boxes.

The palace of the Marquis de Villena, whose construction began in the mid -16C. It is located on Cadenas de San Gregorio Nº 2, in front of the San Gregorio College. At present, the palace is integrated into the complex that houses the National Sculptures Museum, standing just in front of its main headquarters, the College of San Gregorio. Specifically, it houses the library, the conference room, the restoration workshops, the deposit and the Neapolitan Bethlehem. Configured as a true street-museum, which occupies the entire pedestrian street of Cadenas de San Gregorio , the National Sculptures Museum is integrated into the historical complex of the city and divided into three venues: the College of San Gregorio, a jewel of the Peninsular architecture of the 15C. The Villena Palace, noble residence of the 16C. The Casa del Sol ,and the Church of San Benito el Viejo, also of the 16C.
On the occasion of the celebration of the centenary of the death of Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida, the National Museum of Sculpture, the Sorolla Museum and the Sorolla Foundation present Viajar para pintar. Sorolla y la escultura pintada. or to travel to paint. Sorolla and the painted sculpture. An exhibition that explores the relationship of the Valencian painter with the sculpture, from the trips he made to several Castilian cities between 1902 and 1910. In all of them the artist was able to contemplate and collect with his brushes the sculptural wealth present in those places. On this occasion, the National Sculpture Museum presents a careful selection of paintings, sculptures and artistic reproductions belonging to the collections of the Sorolla Museum, the Sorolla Foundation and the Valladolid Museum itself. In this way, travel to paint. Sorolla and the painted sculpture offers a different facet of the painter’s work, where the covers of the great Castilian cathedrals and the facades and interiors of palaces and churches take prominence. It was going on until August 25, 2024 !
