If you have followed my blog, you know my attachment to Madrid, and my history there so do not need to repeat me think. If you have not and new to my blog just go to search type Retiro and/or Madrid and see the many posts on it. From Madrid to heaven and a hole in the sky to look down on it everyday. The focus here is something folks hidden somewhat inside the wonderfully beautiful Parque del Buen Retiro or simply Retiro park in my dear Madrid. The park is very near where I used to lived and walk by it everytime in the city. This is my park, Parque del Buen Retiro I always look forward to be back, eventually, For now let me tell you about the Fuente del Angel Caido of Madrid !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Fuente del Ángel Caido, done in 1878 and at the Glorieta del Ángel Caido, on the plot that occupied the Royal Porcelain Factory (see post), in the Retiro park of Madrid is the only capital in the world that has a fountain with the image of the devil ! The Fallen Angel Fountain is at the confluence of Paseo del Duque de Fernán Núñez, Avenida de Cuba and Paseo de Uruguay. Its easiest access is entering through the Puerta del Ángel Caído, located at the end of Cuesta de Moyano, on Calle Alfonso XII. This fountain was made in 1880. The set has approximate dimensions of 10 meters long, 10 wide and 7 high. The sculpture is 2.65 meters high. The basin on which the water falls is made of granite and has an octagonal shape. In the center stands the pedestal. Its granite base is in the shape of a truncated pyramid, octagonal in shape, and on each of its sides there is a bronze cover. These covers represent devils holding lizards, snakes and dolphins with their hands, and on each of them there are three fountains from which water flows. Since the 1990s, a replica of the Fallen Angel made of polyester resin on a silicone mold has been on display at the headquarters of the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid.
The Glorieta del Angel Caido or roundabout of the fallen angel is at an official topographic altitude of 666 meters above sea level in Madrid. This coincidence with the so called beast number, together with the existence of a false modern popular belief according to which the monument is a kind of “tribute” to Lucifer, to evil, or the heretical, has aroused the imagination of many fans of esotericism, However, this fact is not at all weird in Madrid, since the average height of the city is 666 meters above sea level !
