Curiosities of Madrid, part III !!!

This is a post I need to do as several older pictures found and rather than do a new post on them will just do one on all, These were are part of my living and visiting my dear Madrid, The areas are just gorgeous to walk it and we love it. Therefore, let me tell you more on the curiosities of Madrid , part III !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I. I start off briefly as plenty written in other posts, The Teatro Real is the Teatro de la Opera ,and is located in the Plaza de Oriente, opposite the Palacio Real. Its construction began in 1818, and was inaugurated in 1850. It remained uninterrupted as an opera house until 1925, when it had to close because of structural problems in the building. It did not open its doors again until 1966, as symphonic concert hall. Between 1988 and 1997, it underwent a major remodeling that turned it into an operatic coliseum again. It is a 110 meter high structure, located in the University City of Madrid, in the Moncloa-Aravaca district. Ascent is via panoramic glass elevators, and at the top, huge bays give way to the view of the main monuments of Madrid on a clear day you can see the  Palacio Real, Palacio de Cristal , Catedral de la Almudena, the telephone company building or Telefónica in the Gran Vía,the four towers or Cuatro Torres, and at the back the Sierra de Guadarrama. Indeed awesome views on a clear day, as the pic below from the Faro see the Kio towers by plaza de Castilla and the Cuatro Torres middle !!! Located at the intersection of the districts of the Centro, Chamberí and Salamanca, the square has a large open space known as the Gardens of Discovery , delimited by the streets of Goya, Jorge Juan and Serrano. The west side of the square consists of a crossroads at the center of which rises the monument to Columbus, where the Paseo de la Castellana is to the north and the Paseo de Recoletos to the south. The square was originally called Plaza de Santiago, or St, James Square. In 1893 it was decided to rename the square to Plaza de Colón in honor of Christopher Columbus. Originally, erected between 1881 and 1885, this neo-Gothic-style monument consists of a column surmounted by the statue of Columbus (Colon) , Under it, is the Fernán Gómez Cultural Center, as well as underground parking. The second zone is mainly occupied by the monument of the Discovery of America, inaugurated in 1977. There are stairs at the end that take you down to the Oficina de Turismo Colón.(Tourist office at Colon). On pic below back building is the Casino de Madrid. The square is framed by the Paseo del Prado, with the Palacio de Villahermosa, and the landscaped space of the Plaza de la Lealtad and the Ritz hotel, which facing diagonally has the Westin Palace hotel (stayed here!) occupying the plaza to Poniente in the confluence of the Carrera de San Jerónimo with the Plazuela de las Cortes streets. You have the Calle de Felipe IV, with the entrance of Murillo to the Prado National Art Gallery, the continuation of the walk to the neighboring Glorieta de Atocha, and the entrance of the Calle de Cervantes. Wonderful walking area!! See below. SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES The Fuente de Neptuno fountain is located in the middle of the Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo. This monumental fountain was proposed in 1777 and its construction, begun in 1782, ended in 1786. Regarding the whole monument, a carriage in the form of a shell emerges from a rocky base and is pulled by two hippocampi, symbol of storms and agitated sea. The sculpture represents the god of the sea with his trident upon a chariot, pulled by two sea horses. madrid fuente de neptuno Fuente de Neptuno Plaza Canovas del Castillo may16 The Madrid tourist office on the Fuente de Neptuno: https://www.esmadrid.com/en/tourist-information/fuente-de-neptuno There you go folks another dandy combination of beauties in my dear Madrid; never ceases to amazed me on its architecture and historical beauty.
