My visit to Atlanta, Georgia USA !

I am kind of becoming nostalgic and try to remember places I have been in the USA but not lived. Well , if read my blog ,you know I lived in New Jersey and Florida for a total of 31 years…. Yes ! Memories forever. Now let me tell you briefly as memory fades on my visit to Atlanta, Georgia ! Sit back and hope you enjoy the post as I

These were older times before blogging and love of pictures. I used to collect post cards and have still over 1000 of them (from a high of 4K+) , and from a high of 79 countries. Once, began to like photos ,and getting in online travel forums, stop collecting postcards. The story follows with my blog, Therefore, these older spots are few and between on pictures but at least one is enough to light up the memories and this post,

The City of Atlanta is the capital and most populous city in the state of Georgia, part of Fulton County (about 90% of the city) and part of DeKalb County. Atlanta is a city of international importance. An Olympic city during the 1996 Summer Games as well as a World City according to several rankings, Atlanta and its nearby suburbs are home to the headquarters of multinationals like United Parcel Service, Coca-Cola, CNN and Delta Air Lines. Its film industry is one of the largest in the United States and the world with many films and series being filmed there each year. It is,also, the headquarters of the prestigious federal agency Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Its international airport is the largest in the world in terms of number of flights and number of passengers (2019) Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (IATA code: ATL • ICAO code: KATL), Its name comes from former Atlanta mayors William B. Hartsfield (who helped transform the airport) and Maynard Jackson (the city’s first African-American mayor, who helped modernize the airport). And just visited and transfer here on flights but came to it by bus !

Back in around 1980, while in ERAU university(see post) got a tour of the Delta airlines facilities at Atlanta  Hartfield international airport and stayed at a Days Inn in Atlanta GA. The fun part was the thrill of a bus ride, and me waking up everybody at 6h when we needed to get out at 8h, I just fake the school guide voice over the phone and got everyone up earlier ,terrible feeling lol!! The Delta L-1011 airplane tour was cool. indeed. The hotel is shown with Wyndham webpage but I believe it was this one: https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/days-inn/college-park-georgia/days-inn-and-suite-college-park-atlanta-airport-west/overview

Years later, already on the working world in Daytona Beach, Florida (see posts) got a call to start a counstrywide alumni organisation, Of course, I answered it as was very involved while at the ERAU, I was on the first meeting to do an alumni network at the East Point The Harley Hotel in Atlanta, GA back in 1984; The org was created and still running strong all over the world ! The hotel is gone do not know the new name if any,

A bit of history tell us the land of the city of Atlanta was ceded to Georgia by the Creek Tribe Indians in 1821 in exchange for federal recognition of Creek sovereignty over the remaining territory. Established in 1837 at the junction of two railroad lines, the city became an important railroad center of the Southern Confederacy during the Civil War. Atlanta is one of the few place names in the United States that is completely invented: in the 1840s, the city’s business powers promoted the name “Atlanta” (after the Western & Atlantic, one of two railway lines) to attract more northern capital. In 1848, the small village of Terminus became Atlanta. Taken in September 1864, on the orders of Northern General William Tecumseh Sherman, the Southern city was completely destroyed. Atlanta played an important role in the history of blacks and the American civil rights movement and, in 1974, became the first major southern city to elect a black mayor, Maynard Jackson. Martin Luther King Sr. and his son Martin Luther King were pastors there.
