The La Arquería de Nuevos Ministerios located at Paseo de la Castellana, 67 is a new space of 2,400 square meters dedicated to art and architecture. The rehabilitation of the Arqueria, carried out between 2019 and 2023, has sought to preserve the aesthetics of the room, enhancing its versatility and usefulness. You will be able to see different temporary art exhibitions in this space. Not only will artistic exhibitions be scheduled, it will continue to host initiatives that encourage the dissemination, promotion and research of architectural heritage.

In October 1983, the La Arquería’ Exhibition Hall, of the then Ministry of Housing, was inaugurated with the exhibition Nordic Classicism. 1910-1930. In its more than three decades of history, La Arquería has exhibited the most relevant architecture of the 20C and 21C, with the aim of disseminating architectural culture in Spain through which eminent figures of world architecture such as Lewerentz, Asplund Scarpa, Morris, Saarinen, Piano, Tadao Ando, Barragán, Rietveld, Jacobsen, Terragni, Melnikov, or Eisenman have passed. It has also shown the work of some of the most important Spanish architects of the 20C Coderch, Jujol, Fisac, Oíza, Candela, Alas-Casariego, Corrales-Molezún, MBM, Alejandro de la Sota, Cano Lasso, Calatrava; and some important single-thematic exhibitions such as New York Architecture or One Hundred Plans of Havana. In 2020, rehabilitation tasks have been carried out so that, after its reopening in the first quarter of 2023. La Arquería thus becomes the headquarters of the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art in Madrid, with the homonymous Foundation being in charge of launching a specific program that will accommodate both art and architecture, recovering the ancient cultural tradition of La Arquería.

La Arquería has three exhibition spaces inside. The first of them is the mezzanine, which is minimalist in nature and connects with the Ministry garden through the arches. It will serve to show complete exhibition projects or as a complementary space that acts as a link between the other two. The second is the Zuazo Room, located on floor -1 and named in honor of the architect who designed the building. It respects the original architecture and maintains a floating metal staircase. Finally, the first floor acts like a transparent box, from which you can see the Paseo de la Castellana and a special perspective of La Arqueria (archery). In addition, the Aulario, paradigm of architectural brutalism, has been preserved. In the permanent exhibition, for its part, we can admire many of the pieces that make up the ENAIRE Foundation’s art collection. The Foundation, which already has another exhibition space in Santander, has more than 1,200 works by renowned Spanish artists such as Tapies, Arroyo, Barceló, Picasso and Eduardo Úrculo. This building was designed around 1930 and was completed in 1958.
