My sentimental Las Majadas !!!

Again, looking over my pictures in my vault found some not in my blog and they should be, This is unbelievable as this place is sentimental to me but several pictures were left out from the previous posts on Las Majadas, A town that will be in my mind forever with several family vacations here , For info Las Majadas,is in the province of Cuenca, Autonomous community of Castilla La Mancha, Kingdom of Spain! Therefore, let me tell you a bit more on my sentimental Las Majadas !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I

The short story is that each time vacation time came around I asked my dear late wife Martine to go to Spain ,and of course, Madrid, She asked to go elsewhere to see more and I agree, taking her to a rural house , Casa Pitu in Las Majadas , It had a wonderful location and sublime family time renting a home with the entire family ,and using it as a base to see all of central Spain from east to west and north. The town has an area of 58 km2 (about 22 sq miles) with a official population of 257 but believe we saw a lot less there even in Summer ! The town is at 1400 meters or about 6600 feet elevation right in the sublime Serrania de Cuenca (see post) mountain valley, It is 36 km from Cuenca (see posts) the biggest City and capital of the same name province, A n Unesco World Heritage ! Also, 143 km from Madrid ,and 168 km from Valencia,

The people in town very friendly and the owners of Casa Pitu, Maria Isabel and Luis just fantastic human beings ! The house is on Calle Anastasio Lasso. A house and town that will remain in our hearts forever. The hosts/owners were fantastic beyond the call of duty to make our stay a wonderful one full of great memories and even friendship, The house was golden stone with great insulation could hardly feel hot inside without AC. It was fully stock with cleaning materials, and cooking utensils pans etc

There was an interesting building near the house with a clock tower, which houses the pharmacy and library, However, if you are into nature and forest walks finds etc, this town is a must for you all.

A bit of history again, that I like tell us that the origin of Las Majadas is uncertain, but when Alfonso VIII conquered Cuenca, the surrounding towns were already occupied by Christian troops. The Arabs flee before the Christian advance. Tombs of Arab origin appeared in the Fuente del Tejo. There is also a cave that is called ‘of the Moors’. Tradition has it that the town had been formed by shepherds from Poyatos through cabins in the Pozo de las Ánimas. In the 12C, the Jaraba family held lordship, linked to the conquest of Cuenca. The Jaraba came from Ramón IV Berenguer, 10th Count of Barcelona, king of Aragon when he married Petronila, daughter of Ramiro II,the Monk. Since they had no offspring, they asked Our Lady of Jaraba to grant them this wish and so they named one of her children Jaraba, forming this family. The eldest of the marriage was Alfonso II, king of Aragon who helped Alfonso VIII in the conquest of Cuenca. They have a daughter named María de Toledo, who marries Sancho de Jaraba, lords of the town. The Albornoz and Jaraba families unite when Sancho García de Jaraba marries Urraca Fernández, daughter of Fernán Gómez Albornoz, brother of the cardinal The book of Montería(hunting on horseback) by Alfonso XI talks about good hunting in Las Majadas , It was a royal town. The town appeared in the Floridablanca Census of 1752. In the 18C there were craftsmen who made sieves, seats, etc., as well as weavers, tailors, priests and seminarians. Also an apothecary. In the 19C there were 147 residents. Las Majadas was a royal town and a manor town.
