Curiosities of Madrid, part II !!!

In my walking tours of my dear Madrid, and with the coming of age to keep alert on the architecture all around me I came to see many buildings usually overlook by many. Of course, have written on them before, but these are new pictures of my latest venture into the city ,and would like to tell you about it, Therefore, hope you enjoy the post on the curiosities of Madrid ,part II !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I. The General Headquarters of the Air Force and Space or Cuartel General del Ejército del Aire y del Espacio at, Calle de la Princesa . Once the Spanish Civil War had ended with the Franco’s faction victory and after the requirement of a smallholding for the construction of the Ministry of the Air Force’s headquarters filed in 1939, the plot of land on where the Modelo Prison lied was chosen and ceded as building site. It adopted the Herrera’s elements, inspired by El Escorial. The formal beginning of the construction took place on 10 December 1943.  Although building works did not fully end until 1958, parts of the building were already in use in 1954. Mayor, 79 .The Palace of the Dukes of Uceda, also called the Palace of the Councils is not a building that can be visited but it is attractive on the outside. It is a large building, which in its time competed in size and dominance with the old Alcázar before it became the current Royal Palace, The facades of the Palace of the Dukes of Uceda are very different from each other. The front, on Calle Mayor, shows three floors and some majestic access portals. The back, to the Parapet of the Councils, shows five floors and some openings that could have functioned in their day as service doors. The Palace was ordered to be built around 1610 by the first Duke of Uceda, son of the Duke of Lerma, who was the beneficiary of Felipe III and whom he succeeded in this position. However, it is believed that, after several interruptions and with the intervention of different architects, the building was not finished until 1685. Other voices point to an earlier date such as 1625 or even 1613. Currently, the Palace is shared, as can be read at the top of its portals, by the Captaincy General and the Council of State. The old Florida Park, inside the Retiro park, spectacles and fine dining with a show, the very best, and very nostalgic. Way back in my youth this was a community center where dances were held, now if you had a girl you could come here . I did. And, also, participated in several birthday celebrations of friends, mine and the girl….It is said you cannot forget your first real love at the tender age of 10 lol! Memories forever, do stop by out or in each stop in my Madrid.
