The Place Clairefontaine square ,and the statue of Grand Duchess Charlotte who ruled between 1919 and 1964 graces the space done in 1990. It was redesigned in the late 1980s as part of a complete restoration and reconstruction of the whole from the neighborhood , Grouped around the square, one can see a legion of government buildings, mostly former cloisters dating from the 17C.

The Herengracht or Canal of the Lords is one of the main canals of the city of Amsterdam, located in the borough Center, it is the second of the four concentric canals that form the district of the Grachtengordel or literally Canal Belt with the Singel and the Keizersgracht between which it is located, and the Prinsengracht. With a length of 2.4 km, it was dug in the 17C. It took the name Herengracht in 1612, in honor of the “17 Gentlemen” , governors of the East India Companies, who played a major role in the management of the city in the 16C. You can see around ,the Bible Museum located at numbers 366-368. The Cabinet des Chats presents a collection of works on the cat in a mansion at number 497. The Geelvinck-Hinlopen Museum is located at number 518, the Hendrikje Bag Museum at number 573 and the Willet-Holthuysen Museum at number 605 The official residence of the Mayor of Amsterdam, the Column House or Huis met de Kolommen, is at Herengracht 502. The building, built in 1672, has had official residence status since 1927.
