A re visit to the Church St Pierre et St Paul of Erdeven !!

The town of Erdeven is located in my beautiful department of Morbihan,56 in my lovely region of Bretagne, and in my belle France. Located by the sea, Erdeven is a seaside resort with a coastline that is part of the Gâvres-Quiberon dune massif, running from the Fort de Penthièvre to the Petite mer de Gâvres, and is the longest dune massif in Brittany, cut only by the ria d ‘Etel. There are several posts on the town and this was a new visit with new pictures ,on the Church St Pierre et St Paul of Erdeven, Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Church of St Peter and St Paul  is a wonderful monument in City center and on my latest road warrior trip had to see it again even with constructions work on the roads all over, Therefore here is a bit more on the Church of St Peter and St Paul of Erdeven

The Church of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul recognized the lords of Keravéon as founders of the parish, was completely rebuilt in the 18C; its bell tower, all in granite, dates from 1755; the church was enlarged in 1832 by the addition of aisles on either side of the nave, The Latin cross church has been modified several times, notably in 1833 when it was enlarged by 2 side aisles. On the other hand, in the 1960s, the widening of the D 781 required trimming the apse and rebuilding the sacristy

Inside, a stone staircase leaning against the wall separating the porch from the nave, corresponds to the rise of an old stately tribune. The sacristy adjoining the church, communicates with the transept through a recent door probably late 19C, At the back of the choir, a large cross leans against the wall between the statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. The monumental pulpit still in place is supported by a sculpted angel. Above the sacristy door, a coat of arms of the Thalhouët de Keravéon family, lords of Erdeven. A polychrome marble stoup is leaned against the first pillar of the south, The statue of the Virgin, in carved wood, dates from the 18C, it is a statue from the old altarpiece. The group of Seven Saints, in plaster, dates from the 20C and comes from the Chapel of the Seven Saints, restored in the 19C.

T
he Chapelle of Lann Groëz or the True Cross, Vrai Croix in French. It is also called the  Notre-Dame de Pitié or Chapel of the Congregation. The south door is built in basket handle. It is adorned with a cabbage brace topped with a floret. Two pilasters decorated with circles and diamonds surround it. Above: a shield and a phylactery carried by two angels. The Chapel of the True Cross dates from the middle of the 16C such as the south door. Its founders are not identified so the chapel stays pretty much undocumented.

The Chapel of the True Cross (16C) or Chapel of the Congregation also called in Breton Lann Groës Chapel (since 19C), built in the town of Erdeven and first mentioned in 1930.  As done most if not all the history and description on a previous post, will just briefly mention it here and post the newest picture of it,

There you go folks, a dandy nice historical Chapelle de la Vrai Croix  or True Cross on in Breton Lann Groëz in revisited Erdeven, Lots of construction in city center on all the streets adjacents.  Again, hope you enjoy the post on the re visit town of Erdeven as I

The Grand Megalithic Arc of Erdeven !!

There are several posts on the town and this was a new visit with new pictures ,this time on the megalithic grand arc of Erdeven, Hope you enjoy the post as I,

The town of Erdeven has developed away from the coast and is in a central location within the municipal territory. The town is served by the departmental road 781, connecting Hennebont to Locmariaquer via the Lorois bridge; the village is also crossed by the D 105 which to the west serves Étel and to the east Ploëmel and Auray.

The Grand Megalithic Arc or the Kerzerho-Varques complex on the road D781 just before arriving to Erdeven is home to several hundred menhirs over nearly 2 km with a layout quite similar to the alignments of Carnac: around ten rows of menhirs, the start of which at the western end could be formed by a megalithic enclosure or arc. The alignments of Kerzerho today consist of some 195 menhirs.

The site consists of 10 rows of 195 standing menhirs, intersected by the road linking Erdeven and Plouharnel. The most imposing of them are concentrated in the western zone of the alignments. The site was originally to consist of over 1,100 menhirs or stones, spread over an area over 2 km long and 64 meters wide. An ancient cromlech may have been erected, then destroyed during the development of the road D781, The menhirs date from the Neolithic era !
