This is  pretty Larmor-Baden in the Gulf of Morbihan ! We started our morning going to City center and walk all over into its many picturesques hilly streets and beautfiful home before reaching the harbor or port area.

The cairn of Gavrinis is a megalithic monument located on the island of Gavrinis depending on the town of Larmor-Baden, It is located in the central part of the Gulf of Morbihan. The guided tour of the cairn is done by taking a boat from the hold of Pen Lannic in the port of Larmor-Baden. In addition to the discovery of an exceptional monument, the site offers visitors a unique panorama in the Gulf of Morbihan. Webpage: https://cairndegavrinis.com/en/home/

The Île Berder island, (private but you can walk around it in low tide) more commonly called Berder is a small island of 23 ha , It is long about 1,200 meters from north to south and 300 meters wide at most, the island culminates in its central part at 13 meters altitude, The southern tip of Berder Island is washed by a tidal current, the Mare current, which can reach 9 knots (nearly 17 km/h). It is the second strongest tidal current in Europe , A real island at high tide and a peninsula at low tide, Berder is connected by an 80 meters submersible causeway to Larmor-Baden. The port of Larmor-Baden is the site of a landing stage for the Gulf of Morbihan , It faces the island of Berder to the east and the island of Gavrinis 550 meters to the south. The Port de Plaisance hold, which is located on the south pier, is a pier for passenger ships. The marina has a slipway. A crane is used to launch and dry pleasure boats. Oh well, we love the seafood, we know some cannot take it, so sad. We enjoy it very much near the coast in our beautiful Morbihan, the very best of France think me. I have written on the town of Larmor-Baden, but not much on its oysters which is a historical integral part of the town. So again, let me tell you more of this delicacy in the oysters of Larmor Baden !!

The first spat collection trials carried out on the initiative of Princess Baciocchi (niece of Napoléon I see post) ,and other entrepreneurs such as Arthur Dillon and the Duchess of Uzès, successive owners of Île Berder island. Larmor-Baden was around 1950 the second oyster farming center of the Gulf of Morbihan (after Locmariaquer see post), both for the collection of spat and the breeding of flat oysters, even if it has almost disappeared nowadays, decimated by several successive epidemics (a first in 1921; another more damaging in 1973 and especially that of 1978) , and replaced by Portuguese or Japanese cupped oysters.

In the 1960s/1970s, there were at least 35 to 40 oyster farmers in Larmor-Baden, In 2007, there are still 12 farms, but the tonnage produced, given the evolution of techniques and equipment, is much greater (about 1,200 tons).

This is  pretty Larmor-Baden in the Gulf of Morbihan ! We started our morning going to City center and the Notre Dame Church. Then, many picturesques hilly streets and beautfiful home before reaching the harbor or port area.

The nice Church of Notre Dame of  Larmor-Baden!!  Blessed on July 29, 1880. It had as godmother of the bells, for the donation the Countess Dillon. Among the statues and paintings that adorn the Church, were donations or works of parishioners, the statue of Notre Dame of Larmor, in polychrome wood, holding a three-masts in her left hand and leaning with her right hand on a naval anchor and the other, a small painting watercolor depicting a brick-goëlette, the “Giralda”, offered by Captain Héno, in gratitude for being released safely, him and his crew, of a terrible storm in the North Atlantic in 1878.

A private chapel was built by the Volz family, who offered to sell it in 1857. The gift was rejected by the rector on the grounds that there was neither cemetery nor liturgical objects. The arrival of Napoleon III in Morbihan in 1858 led to solicit Empress Eugénie who acceded to their request. As soon as the decree was published in January 1860, the small chapel became a parish church and was dedicated to Eugénie. The bell was installed and blessed in 1887 and the interior fittings were done little by little with an acceleration after Larmor became a town in 1924.

In the shape of a completely symmetrical Latin cross and with its small bell tower, it has two sacristies and two interior chapels. The walls leading to the altar display, in addition to the Stations of the Cross, many statues.  Behind the modest altar, three pretty stained glass windows represent Saint-Joseph, Notre Dame de Larmor and Sainte Eugenie. The two chapels also house many statues. The church has several elements related to maritime life. Several paintings represent ships and a stained glass window describes sailors going to meet Christ. Also note a very beautiful ex-voto from 1931 representing the Stella Maris, a commercial three-master.
