The  Church Saint-Sauveur and Saint-Colomban of Locminé !!

Again, back in my road warrior days and coming to visit and new and repeated places of my beautiful Morbihan. I came again to a town we have visited and passed by regularly, this is Locminé right off the road N24 but also direct with my town on the D16. We came again to the nice Church Saint Sauveur and Saint Colomband of Locminé.

My new visit will cut short the history part as have another post on it in my blog. This time thus, took more and better pictures me think. Therefore, here is my better second look at the Church Saint Sauveur and Saint Colomband of Locmné! The marker above on the left is the route of liberty and rememberence of the USA effort in the world wars.

The  Church of Saint-Sauveur and Saint-Colomban initially from the 16C was a compromise between the ancient granite facades and the modern church of concrete, carpentry and slate. The facades are that of the old Chapel of Saint-Colomban, from the end of the 15C, to the left and that of the old church, on the right; the City Council had decided, in 1972, to demolish the church which had become obsolete, nowwith  only the two portals of the west façade. In the old church there was a stained glass window of Saint-Colomban integrated into the new construction: the panels of this stained glass were reassembled in a vertical strip behind the altar.

The reason of the two names is that the old church was called Saint Colomban and the the city council decided to name the new one Saint Sauveur , and as it is often the case the compromise was to name it as both. Voilà.

As a novelty, just in front of the church you see some picturesques houses! they are cob and half-timbered houses on the Place du Rond-Point de la République. They date from the 15-16C. On one of them, two sculpted characters symbolize, it is said, Locminé and his wife..

There you go folks, there again is Locminé. This is a nice chapel right in city center and better the second time me think. Hope you enjoy this post on the Church Saint Sauveur and Saint Colomband as I.

And remember, happy travels, good health, and many cheers to all !!!

The Chapelle Notre Dame du Plasker is in the city center of Locminé, a place of prayer would have existed in its location as early as the 11C. The present Chapel dates from the 16C. During the French revolution, the chapel was transformed into a material depot and served for some time as a deciders temple. In 1804, the town brought down the upper part of the bell tower and replaced it with the current  stove.

Plumelin and a congregation !

For lack of a better name, you know me….I was on my road warrior trips in my beautiful Morbihan and came upon a road that led directly pass the town of Plumelin and into Kermaria! A find, nice one even if private. Good to have in my blog for the history and the event, and my life’s travels. Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Filles de Jésus de Kermaria  or the Daughters of Jesus of Kermaria form a female teaching and hospitaller religious congregation of pontifical right.  Towards the end of the 18C, Pierre Nourry, a Breton priest from Bignan, thought of founding a congregation of nuns, but the outbreak of the French revolution forced him to abandon his idea. It was his successor, Father Yves-Marie Coëffic, who proposes to Perrine Samson, of the Franciscan Third Order, to become a member of the future congregation to be founded in the spirit of Pierre Nourry. Four young girls joined her and began their novitiate in 1831, they made their first vows on November 25, 1834, when Perrine received the name of Mother Saint Angèle. From its beginnings, the congregation devoted itself to the education of children, to the care of the sick and to assisting the dying.

In 1860, the congregation left Bignan to settle not far from there in the moors of Lan Vraz, on the territory of the town Plumelin ,also in the Morbihan dept 56 while the place was renamed Kermaria where a chapel dedicated to Saint Joseph was built. In Plumelin, the congregation still has a religious complex, which remains a place of pilgrimage, comprising two chapels and conventual buildings, as well as a college.

The Sisters of the Congregation of the Daughters of Jesus, whose influence was limited in France by the law on congregations of 1880, were forced into exile at the beginning of the 20C by virtue of the law of 1901. (separation of state and church ), In 1903, for example, more than 100 nuns left Brittany for Canada. The Daughters of Jesus also opened an establishment in the United States in the same year in Lewistown, Montana. Three institutes merged with them, The Sisters of Thanksgiving of Mauron (Morbihan 56) founded in 1884, In 1990, the Helpers of the Immaculate Conception of Paris (Île-de-France) founded in 1858, In 2011, the Daughters of Jesus of Vaylats (Lot 47) founded in 1820, The Daughters of Jesus devote themselves to educating young people, helping the sick and dying, teaching catechism and parish animation and various works of solidarity with the marginalized and the needy. They are present in: Europe: Belgium, France, Ireland, and the United Kingdom; America: Canada, Chile, Colombia, Dominica, Haiti, ,and Honduras; and Africa: Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Chad. The parent congregation is base in Paris.

There you go folks, a find, a nice place ,tucked in inland Morbihan by the road D117 just out of Locminé towards Plumelin; Kermaria is worth a look. Again, hope you enjoy it as I.

And remember, happy travels, good health, and many cheers to all !!!
