Back to the Church Saint Gervais-Saint Protais of Saint Avé !

So lets stay on the road shall we!  My newest road warrior trips in my beautiful Morbihan took me to a dear town of mine. This is nice quant Saint Avé in my beautiful Morbihan and lovely Bretagne of my belle France. This is the town I passed to work every day for 9 years, so know it very well even if as lately been a while not back. However, back I did and memory flashes came in strong  to see the Church Saint Gervais et Saint Protais of Saint Avé again; see my other posts on the town in my blog. Hope you enjoy this post as I.

The Church Saint Gervais and Saint Protais is dedicated to the Italian twin brothers, Saint Gervais and Saint Protais from Milan who were martyred in the 2C. The old church was reportedly built in the 15C. between 1426 and 1481 and other churches would have preceded it on the same site. Apart from some ancient elements including the left transept dating from the 15C, the church destroyed in the early 19C was rebuilt from 1830 to 1834. The current  Church, in its almost all, dates from that time. The nave is redone in the fashionable Neo-Gothic style of the times.

This Church of Saint-Gervais and Saint-Protais dates from the 15C of which only a few windows and a door remain, the most important part of the building is from the 19C. The church is in the shape of a Latin cross with one nave. The interior of the church houses an altarpiece with the patron saints of the church as well as a chest from the 15C, they are very interesting.

Gervais and Protais were twins, sons of Saint Vital of Ravenna and Blessed Valerie, and lived in the 1C during the reign of Emperor Nero. They are holy martyrs recognized and celebrated as such by the Catholic Church.

Back to the Church Sainte Cécile of Theix-Noyalo !!

I am again in my road warrior mode in my beautiful Morbihan, coming back for memories of places visited with the family and new pictures. When I came into the Morbihan these were two different towns, and later they merged into today’s Theix-Noyalo.  Hope you enjoy it as I.

The Church Sainte Cécile ; dating from the gothic period which made it go back to the 12C at least, and perhaps even the 11C.  The chapel of the left wing had been rebuilt in 1700, and was under the term of Saint Isidore. It went over many rénovations in the 17C and 18C ; rebuilt between 1852-55 in the Romanesque or Gothic, which is restored in the 17-18C  ,and many interior renovation from 1880 to 1900.

The painting titled “Décollation de Sainte Catherine”, dates from the 17C. The furniture like the  pulpit, the altarpieces of the lateral altars and several statues including that of St. Cecilia dates from the 19C. The statue of Sainte Cécile was placed, in 1895, in the niche of the tower.

The current Church Sainte Cécile dates from the end of the 19C and replaced the old church which was too damaged. A statue of Sainte Cécile, patroness of musicians, is placed above the entrance porch.
