I will add some text and use the new pictures to show you again the nice monuments of the Church Saint André and the Chapelle ND de la Recouvrance, they are next to each other !
Ploemel in the heart of a triangle between Auray, La Trinité-sur-Mer and Étel. Ploemel is 25 km from Vannes ,137 km from Rennes, 138 km from Nantes and 20 km from my house. Of course, in my beautiful Morbihan and lovely Bretagne. Hope you enjoy the new post as I.
The Saint-André Church (St Andrews) done from 1835-1847. It is a church, shaped like a Latin cross, with semicircular windows. This church replaces a 17C church damaged during the French revolution. The current church was extended to the east by a sacristy. The nave comprises of four bays, with a bell tower-porch which dates only from 1847. The retable-lambris (wooden panels) dates from the 19C and the central painting which represented a Resurrection, done in 1859, was recently replaced itself surmounted by a representation of the eternal Father, and the lateral niches houses statues of St. Andrew and St. Isidore.
The parish Church of Saint André was blessed in 1836. It was built further north than the old 17C church, badly damaged during the French revolution. The bell tower dates from 1847. Built with few resources and without an architect, it was built in a late neoclassical style. Only the triolobe of the west portal is in the neo-Gothic style. The stained glass windows, date from 1965 (renovated in 2021), The church is in the shape of a Latin cross, extended to the east by a sacristy. It is in need of renovation indeed.
Parallel to the Church of Saint André but more difficult to see only with appointment and limited days/hours,the Notre-Dame de Recouvrance Chapel was completed between 1560 and 1563. It is in the Flamboyant Gothic style, also called Late Gothic. The painting were recently found and finished their work in 1995 ; the most recent illustrate scenes from the passion of Christ.
The Chapelle Notre Dame de Recouvrance was a place of pilgrimage for the mothers and wives of sailors without news of their absentees. On the day of forgiveness, it was customary for them to throw pieces of bread into the fountain. If the bread sank, the sailor and his boat were lost.
