The Church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Fosse of La Chapelle Neuve !!

And while re visiting some old stumping grounds of my road warrior mode, came finally upon a new town call La Chapelle Neuve or new chapel, very near me, This is another dot in my world map and nice trip, Let me tell you a bit on this town of less than 800 inhabitants in my beautiful Morbihan of my lovely Bretagne and in my belle France, Hope you enjoy the post as I. La Chapelle-Neuve is bounded to the north by Guénin, to the east by Plumelin, to the south by Pluvigner and to the west by Camors and Baud, It is about 13 km from my house !

The lords of Rohan built in their stronghold of Plumelin a new chapel: Notre-Dame-de-la-Fosse. At the end of the 16C, it was rebuilt by the Confrérie du Saint-Sacrement. In June 1867, the town separated from Plumelin and became a town in its own right, taking the name of La Chapelle-Neuve.

The
Church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Fosse was originally a trevial chapel of Plumelin. It became in 1613 the seat of a brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament. It consists of a single nave begun around 1560, a polygonal chevet completed before 1600, a sacristy built in 1660 and a bell tower erected in 1700. You can see the Virgin and Child, a wooden statue dating of the 16C.

The original name of this 15C church was Notre-Dame de la Fontaine. It is an old chapel, built by the lords of Rohan towards the end of the 16C, it seems, with the exception of the tower-porch which dates from 1700. The church is rectangular in plan , finished with a polygonal choir, erected in the last quarter of the 16C. The door frames and the pinnacles of the buttresses are decorated with Renaissance motifs. A sundial, on the southern wall, bears the date of 1576. The framework with its beams with crocodile heads, its sandpits decorated with human figures, fleurons and foliage, is dated 1594 and 1595. A sacristy, built in 1660, blocked the central window of the choir. In 1700, the western porch was built, on which was erected a square tower, surmounted by a polygonal spire and flanked, to the north, by a staircase turret. The altarpiece of the high altar dates from the beginning of the 18C, The chapel of Notre-Dame de La Fosse, rebuilt in the 16C, has since been call La Chapelle-Neuve.

Near the church, across the street there is a 3 meters high Fontaine Notre-Dame-de-la-Fosse fountain dating from 1698 and built of granite.

The Church of Saint Mélaine of Plumelin !

Once again trying to revisit and see inside the several monument of my beautiful Morbihan and closer to home I take you back to Plumelin. The views on the roads are wonderful and all is very close to home. I like to tell you a bit more and especially new pictures in my blog on the Church of Saint Mélaine of Plumelin. For info, the town is only 16 km from my house, and 30 km from Vannes.

The town of Plumelin is located west of Locminé, and is bordered by Moustoir-Ac, La Chapelle-Neuve, Évellys and Moréac.  Again as it nice me think worth repeating, this town was one of the first houses we saw to buy in the area ; we saw a house built in 2010 just beautiful but very far from city center rather in the woods so we let it go!

Plumelin is an old parish, which dates back to the arrival of the Vikings in Brittany, dedicated to Saint Mélaine the bishop of Rennes in the 5C.  The Church of Saint Mélaine has a rotunda chapel to the south of the choir, rebuilt between 1744 and 1759. Its bell tower has the particularity of barely exceeding the roof and, to the south, is grafted a rotunda dating from the Renaissance. The confessionals date from the 18C. The altarpiece of the high altar, dates from 1740 (restored in 1896): two 15C statues, Saint Mélaine and Saint Quidy, surround a painting representing a Descent from the Cross.

The current Church Saint Mélaine dates from the end of the 15C or the beginning of the 16C. It has been restored and modified several times over the centuries: the nave was rebuilt in particular from 1744, which led to the demolition of the Saint-Yves and Trinity chapels. Saint Melaine, born near Redon, lived in the 6C and was attracted to monastic life at a very young age, before becoming bishop of Rennes.

The Halles Coët Village is a market done on Saturdays from 9h to 12h. This is a new district , nestled in the heart of the town, includes twelve apartments, from T2 to T5, including four reserved for seniors; a multipurpose room of 100 m2, made available to individuals and associations, a hall to accommodate markets, exhibitions and parties, but also a commercial center with three cells, available for rent. Very modern contrast big time with the old town, and across the street from the church above , sort of a dividing line of old and new.

The Church of Sainte-Barbe (Santa Barbara) located in the village will be built in the first half of the 16C. The baptismal chapel dates from the 18C. The altarpiece for the main altar was erected in 1730. The bell tower was erected from 1774 to 1777. The two-story sacristy was built in 1838 as an extension of the choir. The tribune was built in 1852. A 626 kg bell was installed and blessed in 1853. The southern porch dates from 1873. The stained glass windows were installed in 1887. The central niche of the altarpiece has housed a large crucifix since 1904. The slate steeple was renovated in 1926. The main altar was consecrated on March 1, 1964.

One is interesting because it was the former chapelle Notre Dame de Lourdes and now it is incorporated into the Library or Mediathéque of Moustoir Ac.
