Wine fair of Baud !!!

Well, if you have read my blog you know my other hobby is wines in general. I am always seeking opportunities to visit the properties, stores, and of course the wonderful wine fairs of my belle France. In this opportunity my oldest son gave me a flyer about a wine fair in Baud a city only 11 km from home ! We know the town well, and why not visit their 3rd wine fair of Baud!!!

On Baud, I have written previously in my blog so will skip the town’s history and monuments, see posts. I found me a wonderful store closer to home than to go to Vannes. This is the Eclat de Vigne at Impasse des Pépinierès, (Z.A. de Kermestre), off the road D768 going north of Brittany which we take zillions of times. They ,also, have a store in nearby Locminé as well. The owner greet us and was very nice as was the staff, and I believe I found me another store to buy wines. Of course, this is a caviste or cellarmaster and they do wines .

We took advantage as I had planned to go that way into north Brittany in the Côtes d’Armor dept 22 area and needed to pass by it. I did the roundtrip of Baud, Plénuef Val André, Erquy, and Lamballe ,of these more later in my blog. We got to the wine fair early by 11h.

The 3rd Wine Fair of Baud was especially in that the system was different. Usually in these wine fair you go to the producer’s stand taste, buy and pay your wines. You can take with you or pick up at the end. In the Baud wine fair, you went to the producer’s stand, tasted your wines chose it in a sales form and at the end came to a stand gave your form, pay, and they collect the wines for you and take it to your car! Nice!

The wine cellar store Eclats de Vigne has been opened since 2005! Starting in Locminé, and in 2019 in Baud. For this year’s wine fair they had 25 winemakers present, during the 3 days of the fair they came from Bordeaux, Val de Loire, Vallée du Rhône, Sud-Ouest, Alsace, Provence and Italy! It was nice and for the thank you and the encounter and the find we took 24 bottles.

Their Facebook page has more on the wine fairhttps://www.facebook.com/Eclatsdevigne/

There you go folks, a nice outing near home and worth the time. To say the least, we like the ambiance, the store, and the personnel so therefore, we will be back for buying more wine here in the future. The Eclats de Vigne of Baud was a nice find! Hope you enjoy the post as I; and En Vino Veritas for all!

And remember, happy travels, good health, and many cheers to all !!!

How about Carpi !

Well looking at my vault of pictures of my glorious trips all over the world, found these two. Ok I have written on Carpi before, but left these two out and especially did not mentioned where I got my wines souvenirs! Therefore, how about Carpi ! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

I used to come by here often almost every year for the last 10. Then , I was out for a couple of years and came back. Nice Carpi always remembered and always looking forward to be back eventually.

So not to go into history etc already in my previous two post, just will tell you Carpi is the Modena administrative province of the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy ,of course. I always came here landing at Bologna airport and then limo service to Carpi and back.

My wonderful memorable friendly just great hotel was the Hotel Carpi, Via Delle Magliaie 2/4, 41012. This was always full of models as this is a fashion town. Their lines reads “This modern hotel offers sleek design and a convenient location, only 2 km from the highway/motorway and a short walk from the old town. The hotel offers an ideal base for exploring the sights of the city. These include the Renaissance city/town hall, the 16C cathedral with baroque facade and the Romanesque Church of Santa Maria in Castello.” Just perfect indeed and short walks plenty of restaurants as well as above closed to old town. I did went out at nights, just lovely.

On my ways around Carpi, locals took me to the Cantina di Carpi e Sorbara for some local wines to take home. It was one of the highlights of my stayed there and always remembered fondly. These friends I am happy to report still in contact with me.

From their webpage I translated this section. “The Cantina di Carpi e Sorbara is a cooperative with 1,200 producer members that has a production capacity of about 450,000 hectoliters of wine per year. Currently the winery has 6 plants, including 5 for crushing and 1 for bottling: Carpi (Mo), Concordia (Mo), Poggio Rusco (Mn), Rio Saliceto (Re), Sorbara (Mo), and Bazzano (BO) . The wine production is centered on Lambrusco: Sorbara, Salamino, Maestri, Marani, Viadanese and on Pignoletto, but an important part of the company’s success, especially for what concerns the bulk wine, is also linked to the so-called Red Wine which is obtained from Ancellotta grapes, The export share has reached 20% of turnover, in more than 25 countries, including (in order of importance): Mexico, the United States and Russia. The sale of bulk wine, on the other hand, is the ace in the hole of the Cantina di Carpi and Sorbara and the export share, which mainly concerns Spain, reaches 10% of turnover. The appellations of the wines of the Cantina di Carpi e Sorbara are 6 Lambruschi DOC (including Lambrusco di Sorbara), Pignoletto DOC and DOCG Colli Bolognesi.”

The Church Saint Patern of Séné !!!

I like to take you just south of Vannes, to the town of Séné and update this older post on a nice monument there, I like to tell you a bit on Séné, and then the Church Saint Patern, which has an equally name older church in Vannes (see post).

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Séné is located in the department 56 of the Morbihan, in the region of Bretagne. It is at the bottom of the Gulf of Morbihan, bounded by the city of Vannes and the town of Theix-Noyalo  from which it is physically separated by the Noyalo river. There are very nice roads here and for public transport (not taken) you have the Bus served by line 7 of  Kiceo  network of Vannes as well as 3, 5 and 10 (Poulfanc) passes by as well. On arrival at Vannes train station (from Paris Montparnasse for example), take bus line 7 “Saint-Avé – Le Dôme / Séné Ajoncs” in the direction of Séné-Ajoncs.

What I like to update on this post is on a nice monument seldom mentioned but worth the detour me think for its architecture and history I like. Info translated taken from the Church St Patern brochures and books on it. St Patern  is one of the founding  bishoprics  of Bretagne/Brittany, and the first bishop of Vannes.

The current Church Saint Patern was built between  1878 and 1886.  The belltower is a bit truncated at 50 meters and a lot of granite stone in construction of Gothic and Roman traces . The church is located in the heart of the town of Séné. It is in the form of a Latin cross, measuring 45 meters in length for a width of 30 meters at transept. Preceded by the bell tower, the nave develops into three bays. On the wings of the transept are grafted two apsidioles or small chapels and flanked by two sacristies, ends with a polygonal bedside.

The Church Saint-Patern presents under its domes adorned with stained glass windows, one of which restores the episode of the miraculous fishing, two models. The first is a very nice three-mast boats from the beginning of the 19C under great bulwark, the Guardian Angel boat.  The second ex-voto is a Sinagot, a boat typical of the Gulf of Morbihan, offering a black hull with a red-winged tapered line, registered in Vannes, The Saint-Louis ,boat of Séné, of type Querrien, is the latest evolution dating from the 1920’s. There are very few votive models of this kind, if not two others, older, preserved in Sainte-Anne d’Auray (see post). A stained glass window under a dome of the Church Saint Patern restores the scene of the miraculous fishing  with Jesus and his disciples.
