Curiosities of Amiens !

So would like to take you a bit to the old Picardie, now Hauts de France  region and a very nice city with a lot of history of the struggle to be free in world wars.  This is Amiens , and we have been here all over but feel not enough written in my blog about it. I would to tell you about a couple of curiosities of Amiens, very much part of the everyday life of the city. Hope you enjoy it as I.

This is another wonderful city to walk in my belle France. I have plenty written on it in my blog, so will tell you about a spot and an anecdote in my walks of Amiens!! The city is in the Somme dept 80 , Hauts de France region, only 115 km from Paris and easy accessable.  An excellent train station Gare d’Amiens and 38 km from Amiens you have TGV connection with the TGV Haute Picardie station.

The Amiens train station (known locally as “Gare du Nord”), is located in the immediate vicinity of the city center. It is put into service by the Compagnie des chemins de fer du Nord, in 1846. The station has six platforms, serving eleven tracks,  It constitutes, with the site of Longueau and the stations of Saint-Roch (Somme), Boves and Vers , the heart of the Amiens “star railway”, which is composed of eight branches allowing to reach Paris-Nord (via Creil), Compiègne (via Montdidier), Lille-Flandres (via Arras and Douai), Calais-Ville (via Abbeville and Boulogne-Ville), Rouen-Rive-Droite (via Abancourt and Serqueux), Laon (via Tergnier) , and formerly Frévent (via Doullens) and Beauvais (via Crèvecœur-le-Grand).  This SNCF station, has a passenger building with counters , open every day. It is equipped with automats for the purchase of transport tickets. It is an “Access TER” station, which offers facilities, equipment and services for people with reduced mobility. Passage from one platform to another is via a covered walkway, equipped with stairs fixed and mechanical, and two elevators; it makes it possible to reach all the platforms. The lower concourse only gives access to tracks 7-12. There is also an underpass linking most platforms together.

And one for the memories of our visits here while living in the Yvelines dept 78 which allows us to come often from Versailles, was to have our lunch here. We came first , we like it and kept coming back wherever in town or passing by . This was the old Brasserie Le Queen’s at 3 Place Gambetta.

A very pleasant place with a charming reception! There were a variety of delicious dishes! Also, the price rhymes with the quality offered! This is an address we always hit it! Very good brasserie, you could eat traditional dishes, and the plates were plentiful, fair price, super-friendly welcome, for a lunch. Le Queen’s 3 Place Gambetta , was again a very good brasserie, very smiling welcome, for a lunch it is an address to remember, or as i said, memories forever. The Brasserie Le Queen or brewery closed and replaced by a new one called Les 3 Cailloux. Unfortunately, my opinion did not go well with the rest of you and the place has since closed down. I have not tried the new place, so the memories of the old one still rings with us, We found it at random walking from the train station and we hit it at 3 place Gambetta; many trips back, and now another spot in my memory lane book. My sons below pic.
