Museo Archéologico Nacional de Madrid!!

As it goes around my home, look up and done a post on this wonderful property under the title of Museo Archéologico Nacional, Madrid of course! Then, again, had many pictures left out from this original post and decided it merits to tell you more and show you more of the National Archeological Museum of Madrid, Spain. Therefore, here is my treat to you and me; hope you enjoy it as I.

The Museo Archéologico Nacional de Madrid or National Archaeological Museum of Madrid was founded in 1867 by decree of Queen Isabel II(Elizabeth), the museum presents a route that goes from the caves of Altamira, of which there is a reproduction, through the Iberians and Egyptians, reaching the Renaissance and touching above decorative arts until the 19C. We find works of art from practically all the cultures that have inhabited in Spain. It is one of the largest archaeological collections of humanity!

Between 2008 and 2014, the museum is entirely renovated which made it gain in importance. Some of the most important objects exhibited in the museum are the Lady of Elche, the Moorish Well Monument, the Statue of Livia, the Lady of Baza, the Six Crowns from the Incredible Treasure of Guarrazar, the Stele of Nebsumenu and the Statue of Harsomtus-Em-Hat.

The order established in the tour of the National Archaeological Museum is chronological. It employs a sequential expository discourse that begins at the beginning of humanity and covers until the 19C, coinciding with the time of the museum’s creation. The exhibition is structured in three main spaces that host different content: ‘Archaeology and heritage’, which includes basic concepts; ‘Spain, place of cultural encounters’; and ‘From cabinet to museum’, which talks about the institution and the collections of Mediterranean cultures.

The order would be the Mezzanine first. It has a space dedicated to currency. Its function is deepened from the 6C B.C. until the 21C. It is considered the best in Spain in this field and one of the most outstanding worldwide. First floor. Roman Hispania, Protohistory, Medieval World: Al Andalus, and Late Antiquity. Second floor. Modern Age, Medieval World and Christian Kingdoms, Greece, The Nile: Egypt and Nubia, the Near East and the History of the Museum. Cafeteria, shop, activity rooms.

It was built with materials from the Royal Library of Gabinete de Historia Natural and many other collections. Between 1866 and 1892 the Palacio de Bibliotecas y Museos (palace of libraries and museums) was built. This neoclassical building was designed to house the National Library, the Museum of Modern Art and the Archaeological Museum, which was installed there in 1895. Its foundational collections came mainly from the Royal Cabinet of Natural History (predecessor of the current National Museum of Natural Sciences), to which were added the funds of the Museum of Medals and Antiquities of the National Library, made up of around 100,000 coins, medals and carvings, as well as a thousand archaeological and artistic objects, those of the Higher School of Diplomacy, and those of the Royal Academy of History.

You can reach the National Archeological Museum of Madrid at Calle Serrano 13 with metro station Serrano (líne 4) and  Colón (líne 2), The bus lines stopping just in front are no, 1, 9, 19, 51 and 74, Also, I have used the car park at Plaza de Colón by the Jardines del Descubrimiento.

The Museo Nacional de Antropologia or National Museum of Anthropology with headquarters in Madrid, at Calle Alfonso XII no 68. It is the first anthropological museum created in Spain, and is dedicated to offering a global vision of the different cultures that exist on the planet, with collections that cover all five continents. It was inaugurated on April 29, 1875 by King Alfonso XII, with the official name of “Museo Anatomico” or Anatomical Museum (as indicated in Latin by the commemorative tombstone, preserved in the lobby), although it would popularly be known as the Anthropological Museum, for be the title that appeared on the access door,

It has its origins in the initiative of the doctor from Valseca de Boones, Province of Segovia, Pedro González de Velasco, who wanted to create a museum to house his various collections. After his death, the State bought the building from his widow in 1887 and the collections, to which many others were later added, the result of expeditions, trips, donations, purchases, etc. After the founder’s death, the building became assigned to the National Museum of Natural Sciences (MNCN) , which installed its Anthropology, Ethnography and Prehistory Section. This section had been created on October 1, 1883 with pieces of this nature that were in the MNCN, coming from scientific trips and expeditions at the end of the 19C, especially from the Scientific Commission of the Pacific. In 1910, it was split from the National Museum of Natural Sciences, constituting with it an independent museum that kept its name, the National Museum of Anthropology, Ethnography and Prehistory, The National Museum of Anthropology, which was renamed in 1940 National Museum of Ethnology. In addition, the funds it had on archeology and prehistory were disposed of, which were transferred to the National Archaeological Museum (see post) . That name was maintained until 1993, when it recovered the old name of the National Museum of Anthropology, which merged the National Museum of Ethnology and the National Museum of the Spanish People under that name, although both institutions continued to function independently with two different venues. This situation continued until 2004 when the Costume Museum was created. Ethnological Heritage Research Center (CIPE), to which the collections of the Museo del Pueblo Español were assigned and thus the two institutions were separated, creating two independent museums.

The building was designed and built between 1873 and 1875. It currently has three floors, the ground floor dedicated to physical anthropology, Asia (Philippines and Eastern religions) and temporary exhibitions, the first to Africa and the second to America. In total, they comprise more than 21,000 collections, whose breakdown by sections is, in alphabetical order: Africa: 3,800; America: 2600; physical anthropology: 4600; Asia: 1700; Europe: 2600; Philippines and Oceania: 4,500; and prehistory: 1600 (deposited in the National Museum and Research Center of Altamira). Of these, 1,100 pieces are permanently exhibited. In addition there are more than 7000 documentary collections.

The Parish Church del Santísimo Sacramento of Madrid!

This one again was mentioned briefly in previous posts on Madrid. However, feels deserves a post of its own. One of the nice things about Madrid is that even if lived there and visit every year, there is always something new to see; the city has a load of wonderful monuments. Let me tell you a bit more on one of them, the Parish Church Del Santisimo Sacramento of Madrid!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

I happened to be by the area quite a bit in the last 10 years, and my objective each time is to get to the Retiro park (see posts) just ahead; sometimes indulging in eating of Cerveceria Cruz Blanca (see post). One day, I just happened to gazed on the side street and saw this church. Nice find I said, and took a peek. One nice highlight of the visit and one more monument of my dear Madrid known. Let me share it with all in this post.

The Parish Church del Santísimo Sacramento  or Holy Sacrament is located in the upper part of the Retiro Park on Calle Sainz de Baranda, 3, The church was inaugurated in 1970 under a completely modern and avant-garde style.

It consists of a single large singular gabled nave on whose exterior pediment various decorative motifs can be seen. Access is via a lintel door whose pediment depicts the Pantocrator. The portal is flanked by two large pyramidal towers crowned with two crosses. Inside, the texture of the ceiling stands out, playing with silhouettes and shadows, leading the gaze to the main altar, where there is a more classical image of Jesus.

I would come by here from my hotel to the Retiro park and also to eat at the Cerveceria Cruz Blanca in the corner with Calle Menendez Pelayo and Calle Sainz de Baranda, the Retiro park was just in front, And while gazing out of the restaurant saw the tower and went for a closer look, Another dandy in my dear Madrid off the beaten path indeed. You can come closer taking the metro line 9 stop/parada Ibiza.

There you go folks, another dandy in my dear Madrid. The Parish Church of the Holy Sacrament is worth the detour and the area has plenty to see and eat. Hope you enjoy the post as I.

And remember, happy travels, good health, and many cheers to all!!!
