We have been inside several times and past by it zillions times, and, so I stop by again to tell you more about the St Guigner Church in my town of Pluvigner. First, my town of Pluvigner (French) or Pleuwigner (Breton).  The name comes from the Breton Ploe meaning Parish and Guigner, the Saint; therefore, the Parish of St Guigner or Pleuwigner or Pluvigner! Get it !

I have plenty written on the church in my blog, these are new pictures of today and did a bit more on the text, new. Enjoy it as I!!

The Church Saint Guigner is vast, dating from 1545, bell tower retouched in 1781, and restored in 1883 , The painting entitled “Assumption”, dates from 1770. The painting “Donation du Rosaire”, dates from the very beginning of the 20C. It was the heart of an old religious complex made up of the chapel of Notre-Dame des Oties (nettles), and the chapel of Saint-Adrien, a hospital and a cemetery. These monuments or their vestiges remain today. The stained glass windows relate the events of the life of famous people in the parish, such as Saint Guigner, Saint Guénaël or even the penitent Kériolet. You will also find the statues of Saint Guigner, Saint Michel, Saint Vincent Ferrier and that of Notre-Dame de Bon Secours.

The old  Chapelle Notre-Dame des Orties or Our Lady of the Nettles was invoked against rheumatism, and even communicated with the church, at the level of the sacristy. These are called double churches.

Pluvigner had its patron saint as Saint Guigner, under whose name was placed its parish church. Hibernois of origin and son of a small king still peasant, this saint had embraced the Christian religion. To escape the persecution of his own father, he came with several new converts to spend a few years in  the Armorican Cornwall (Cornouaille). Back in his homeland, he renounced the throne left vacant by the death of his father ,and went to what is today call England, to work there for the conversion of the Saxons who had invaded his country: Barely landed, circa 455 , he was put to death, with all his companions. Fleeing the Saxons, a band of Christians who lived in the neighborhood where these martyrs had plucked their palms; and taking with it the body of Saint Guigner, crossed the sea, and came to settle, in the territory of the ancient Vénètes (Celtic tribe who gave the name to our capital city Vannes) in an almost deserted canton.

This is an artisan chocolate store. The La Fondue de Chocolat offers you around fifteen fine chocolates, palets, beggars, hammer chocolate (large broken bar), bars, molds, The products we offer are fresh, gourmet… They are created daily, I can vouch, they are delicious, recommended.

The Museo Convento de Santa Isabel de los Reyes of Toledo!!

Once again clearing my vaults of pictures found some not shown yet in my blog as far as I can see. This is a pity as these are marvels in architecture and history of the world culture city of Toledo.  Therefore, time to make up and here is my take on the wonderful Museo Convento de Santa Isabel de los Reyes of Toledo!!

The nice  Museo Convento de Santa Isabel de los Reyes, at Calle Cristo de la Parra, s/n is a convent where nuns sells the sweets of the area is quite nice and very inviting indeed.

The Museo Convento de Santa Isabel de los Reyes ,the current convent, founded in 1477 by Doña María Suárez de Toledo, known as “Sor María la Pobre”, has its origins in two different palaces, both Mudéjar from the 14C and the Church of San Antolin. It is accessed by the convent church, rebuilt during the reign of Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, through a portal from the time of the Catholic Monarchs by 1500. It is in Gothic style and is covered with wood-coffered ceiling,

The main altarpiece is dated in 1572, is Plateresque style and high reliefs. The choir of the nuns with a azulejo plinth, a Plateresque reredos and an ashlar, all of the 16C, were all built at the base, The interior is Gothic in style, the only nave being covered with a wooden coffered ceiling in Mudejar style. In the nave of the Epistle there is a sensational altarpiece. At the foot of the church, the nuns’ choir was also built in the 16C, highlighting its attractive tile plinth , the plateresque altarpiece and the stalls. In the chapels we find interesting artistic samples, standing out the one built by Diego Velasco de Ávila, the Younger, in 1571 for the Cernúsculo family, and the tomb of Doña Inés de Ayala, dated in the 15C and executed in black and white marble. . In one of the rooms of the convent, the Catholic Queen Isabel I, gave birth to her daughter Isabella, the future queen of Portugal. They Convent is given the invocation of Santa Isabel in honor of Santa Isabel of Hungary at the express wish of the Catholic Monarchs, who would be patrons of the house. For this reason they would become known as Santa Isabel de los Reyes. The closure area has four patios, the Naranjos, the Laureles, the Infirmary and the Demandadera. After the reforms carried out in 2006, it was opened to the public, converting part of the complex into a museum.

The Posada de la Santa Hermandad of Toledo!!

Once again clearing my vaults of pictures found some not shown yet in my blog as far as I can see. This is a pity as these are marvels in architecture and history of the world culture city of Toledo.  Therefore, time to make up and here is my take on the wonderful Posada de la Santa Hermandad of Toledo!!

The Posada de la Santa Hermandad is located on Calle de la Hermandad, inside the old quarter of the city of Toledo. An interesting building was the Posada de la Hermandad or brotherhood created to protect the farmers from bandits even if today is used for exhibitions by the city.

The Posada de la Hermandad is located in front of what was once known as Calle de la Tripería (today Calle Sixto Ramón Parro) and is bordering the Market and the Rojas Theater (see post). It is a three-story building including the basement where the prisons of the Santa Hermandad Vieja de Toledo were located. Through the main door, the gang members entered the hall where the guardhouse would possibly be, from where they had access to a room located to the right that could have been the Court’s office and where the councils took place. In the basement were the four dungeons , rectangular in shape and vaulted, whose access was through a staircase where there was a rake, to prevent prisoners from escaping. On the first floor of the building was the court room where the trials of detained prisoners were held.

The old Brotherhood of Colmeneros de Toledo, later known as the Santa Hermandad Vieja de Toledo, was created by the owners of beehives to put order and monitor their properties and the territory where they had jurisdiction. It would be at the end of the 13C,when it already appeared in the documents receiving the support of the city of Toledo itself.

In November 1300 this group would be the Brotherhood of Toledo, Talavera and Ciudad Real. Successive privileges granted by kings such as Fernando IV, Alfonso XI, Pedro I or Juan II, will make the brotherhoods take on special importance when it comes to administering justice and that their gangsters will be feared and respected throughout the region , They would be precisely the grandparents of Carlos I , that is, the Catholic Monarchs, who reorganized the brotherhoods and extended them to the entire kingdom in 1476, in the Cortes de Madrigal. During the 18C, these brotherhoods continued to watch over the hives and mountains, collecting certain taxes such as the twelfths, but it would be with the of1835 when Isabel II dissolved the Holy Brotherhoods of Toledo, Talavera and Ciudad Real. Upon the death of the last owner, it was transformed into an inn and hence the current name of the building as posada=inn or Posada de la Hermandad.
