Again another property have written before in my wonderful Pluvigner, We again took advantage it was heritage days this weekend or journées du patrimoine, and the gardens here were open again, Therefore, let me give you the latest pictures on the Château de Keronic.

From the grid at the end of a long beautiful road of trees, 2,5 km from city center of Pluvigner right on the road D 102 direction Languidic. This is the Château Keronic!  Of course, in my beautiful  Morbihan Department 56 of my lovely region of Bretagne.

I will cut short the text as more in my other posts, and what I want is to showcase the new pictures of this wonderful castle still in private hands !!! The Parc de Keronic, 32-hectare landscaped park with pond, formal garden, trees and heather plants, Open exceptionally for European Heritage Days, it offers beautiful views of the castle and its outbuildings, which are private.

The Château de Keronic is an imposing mansion of the 15-17C, but largely reengineered by the Harscouët family of Saint Georges around 1860. It is still the property of this family, currently represented by Viscount Christian de la Tullaye. Set amidst large woods, the castle has a large Chapel. In addition, another Chapel exists in the park along an alley, south of the Castle. It worth the trip here as you are welcome by the Viscountess herself and this time was able to say Hi to the Viscount as he was leaving the property, Worth the detour on Heritage Days ! Another of my off the beaten path gems in my neck of the woods , just love it. Do stop by the  Chateau Keronic and say hi! in Pluvigner.

This is right in my town amongst fields of corn in real country beautiful Morbihan dept 56 of my lovely Bretagne, I have passed by here so many times lost count ; then this weekend is journées du patrimoine or heritage days all over France, The site du Talhouët was open as usual but this time with archeologists given a presentation of it so we took advantage.

This is our first time here, so new text and pictures ; hope you enjoy the site du Talhouët as we did. Of course, what you find now are ruins, and foundations.  I will do the traduction of the city of Pluvigner page on it as will be a better explanation,The whole is located on a plateau culminating at 67 meters, dominating a marshy area formed by the confluence of two small creeks. Just across from the Artisan Park of Talhouët and near the recycling center (déchetterie) of the area in between there is a panel with a no name road and corn fields on both sides, you go to the end about one km and the gallic site is there.

The excavations on the archaeological Gallic site of Talhouët began in 1983, following destruction caused by agricultural work, in November 1982. They were completed in 1989. The work focused on two areas of the plateau which overlooks a wetland ; and I must add now surrounded by corn fields ! The remains unearthed use granite, taken on site. A light restoration was undertaken taking into account the good state of conservation of the site. In a few limited areas, the walls were reassembled in dry masonry to the best preserved level of the structure.

The site is made up of two distinct groups: in the center of the plateau, the remains of a Gallic settlement and in its southern border, two burials with older circular facings. This site would correspond to a farm, briefly protected by an enclosure which follows the break in the slope of the plateau. The inhabited area, in the center, is limited by an enclosure with a surface area of ​​250 m² protecting, a quadrangular construction dating from the 3C BC , To this first habitat, a circular building was attached. from the 2C BC The associated wall disturbed part of the older enclosure. It is likely that other structures were destroyed on the northern edge of the house.

By its surface of 23 m², this first circular house is of modest size. The building opens to the east. The internal timing indicates the existence of a pivot pin for the door. A fireplace installed on a slab of stones occupies the center. On the northern part, the wall was well preserved, while on the southern part it was partly destroyed. Since the Iron Age, the building has undergone a major overhaul, not shown here. The best-preserved part has supported a canopy. Regarding the furniture, many fragments of pottery, quartz hammers were found on the ground. Spindle leaves testify to the activity of wool spinning. The building opens east onto the enclosure. Built against the wall of the enclosure, the quadrangular house has a surface area of ​​28 m2. If the techniques and materials used to build this house are identical to those of the circular house, the plan differs. Here, a load-bearing structure was created to be able to support the roof. The internal wedges are the anchor points for the frame supports. We also know that there was a small attic. The structure of the entrance reveals the presence of a porch under which certain activities could take place. No trace of a fireplace was found inside, however the house could be cleaned before it was abandoned. Regarding the furniture, the remains of pottery are absent inside the structure but are numerous near the entrance.

The two burials with circular facings are characteristic of a funerary architecture known in the region for the 7C and 6C BC. These monuments often protect cinerary urns placed in the stony mass. More rarely, it involves burial, as is the case in Pluvigner. The central vault is protected by a system of corbelled stones, arranged in a radiant manner. These are burial graves and the characteristics of the soil do not allow the preservation of the bone remains.

This was very educational ,interesting, and if you like history like me a must to see when presentations are done, check with the tourist office to have one there or look up heritage days next September 2022.

There you go folks, something unique off the beaten path and very educational indeed. It is one of the gems in my pretty town of Pluvigner less than 5 km (less than 3 miles) from my house.

I have written on this museum before in my blog ; however, today was heritage days in France or journées du patrimoine and entrance was free, and we took advantage to come back again, It is a nice detour me think, Baud is just up the alley from me on the D768 and we have come here often.

The Quatro is the new cultural hub of Baud. This brings the Museum in as the Le Carton Voyageur- Musée de la Carte Postale ; a museum of postcards, The property occupies an area of 310 m2 of which 220 m2 of exhibition spaces, in addition to the 20 m2 of reserve.

As basically this was a chance to have interior pictures of the new place as the previous location in city center Baud could not find the pictures, Therefore, as not to repeat the text will be short.

The Le Carton Voyageur invites you to stroll through Brittany back and front. Through the eye of the photographer and the millions of correspondence exchanged, you will relive the daily life of Bretons in a unique way; a journey through the front and back of Brittany , It is a contemporary museography and interactive with sounds, videos, designs, objects, photos, and music, The postcards are from 1898 to our days,It show Brittany as it is a land of traditions, sea, and religion.

The  Le Carton Voyageur Museum has a room of 170 m2 for its current exhibition « Echappées Photographiques Bretonnes »,You see the exhibition of Jean Eveno and Yvon Kervinio thru September 30 2021 . The thousands of landscapes and scenes of everyday life immortalized by photographers and the many correspondence exchanged are all testimonies to the life of our ancestors.

Le Carton Voyageur Museum has presented a database called Cartolis, allowing a search by places or keywords, the zoom on maps, the ordering of reproductions, the creation of personal albums, the annotation of maps and the sending of virtual postcards. It is a very nice interesting museum showing traditions and costumes of Brittany at their best even model dresses and ceramics as well as a great introduction to postcards. It is worth a detour and even great for me as in my other life was a postcard collector and still almost a thousand left of many countries in my vault.
