Church Saint Martin in Landevant!

This is another town close to me in fact when the virus 10km was in effect we came here to do our groceries for a change from our town and go out. We passed so many times and eventually stop in town for a look. Nice little town and warm folks. Let me update text on this older post of the  Church Saint Martin in Landévant!

I have look deep into my blog ,and found many posts needed a refresher and just went out to get new pictures! My road warrior template got me going and having a blast with the boys on each town. The Morbihan rocks! I came twice and both times closed so settle with the recognition that it is in my blog this Church of Saint Martin in Landévant!

Landévant is located between Lorient and Vannes on the N165 expressway , and very near me as I go by here on the D16 , then D33 when going out to the Finistére dept 29. The town is at the north end of the Étel river. In 1790, Landévant became an independent town! Landévant was a dismemberment of the former parish of Pluvigner (my town)In 1795, takes place the battle of Landévant where several thousands Chouans (rebel for king against the French revolution) obtained victory over the Republican troops ( French revolutionaries).

The Church of St. Martin built in 1834. It replaces a 15C Church that has preserved a few animal sculptures. Some carved stones from the old church have been preserved, embedded in the south wall and fragments of inscriptions in Gothic characters giving dates 1413 and 1422.

The first church dates back to the 15C, we learn that the first bell tower was completed in 1512. The new church was built in 1834 according to the date shown on the gable of the chevet The new bell tower, built in 1857, and adorned with Doric, Ionic and Corinthian pilasters, is crowned by a stone spire The sacristy is contemporary with the church The south porch destroyed during WWII was rebuilt around 1950. A wooden cross was erected 1920, date carried on the plinth as the church is built in coated rubble stone following a Latin cross plan. Many sculptures are reused from the old church: on the apse above the date of 1834 protected by a drip edge two round coats of arms, now smooth in alliance in a crown of order; on the crawlers of the bedside, the remains of an unidentified animal. An axis sacristy on the ground floor is attached to the bedside.

This is one of those town, you passed every day by it but hardly ever stop. Well have done that for the benefit of my blog and my readers. Landevant is not a tourist town but a rest stop would be fine in its city center by the church. It is historical for sure locally and has nice architecture which I like. Hope you enjoy the Church Saint Martin brief tour.

And remember, happy travels, good health, and many cheers to all!!!

Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Nostang!

This is one of the town close to me and of course drive by there often but nevertheless need to update text on this older post of a nice monument in town. This will be my update on the  Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Nostang!

I have look deep into my blog ,and found many posts needed a refresher and just went out to get new pictures! My road warrior template got me going and having a blast with the boys on each town. The Morbihan rocks!!!  The town of Nostang  was involved in the creation of the community of towns of Bellevue in 1993. Today, it is the community of towns of Blavet Bellevue Océan, with Kervignac, Merlevenez, Plouhinec and Sainte-Hélène. Hope you enjoy my tour of Nostang , and the Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul!

The parish Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul offers in its Chapel Notre-Dame a mural of the said of the three dead and the three vivid which is a macabre dance: three young gentlemen are arrested in a cemetery by three dead, who recall the brevity of life and the importance of the salvation of their souls. The bell tower was rebuilt in 1951. It is an exquisite church , worth the detour me think.

The furniture inside the Church of St Pierre et St Paul is of a high quality, as evidenced by the limestone altarpiece at the base of the altarpiece, two doors framing the altar, lead to the sacristy. At the top, three compartments bounded by four Corinthian columns. The curved outer panels are adorned with garlands of flowers that frame the statues of St. Peter and St. Paul. In the center, a painting of Mésanstourm depicts Saint Peter walking on the waters to meet Jesus. The whole is topped with a dentelle entablature. The central panel is crowned with a curvilinear pediment supported by two columns. It is decorated with Angelate on the tympanum and supports an ensemble sculpted such as two Angels half extended before the Trinity, and the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, personified by a dove.

The arms of the transept welcome two retables. The oldest it consists of a central table framed with twinned columns that support a small triangular pediment. The upper part consists of a niche flanked by columns and foliage, welcoming the statue of the Trinity, all capped with a triangular pediment. This altar is dedicated to the Madonna of the Rosary and the central panel seems to represent the donation of the Rosary to St. Dominic.  It is dedicated to the Cross, Saint John the Baptist and the Sacred Heart, as evidenced by the statuary. The painting illustrates the agony of Jesus and on the altar of the altarpiece, is laid a bust-reliquary of St. Peter. One should note the presence of particularly interesting statuary: two Trinities, one represented with the Father seated, the other with the representation of the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove and a statue of the Blessed Virgin and Saint Marguerite dating from the 18C whose form is similar to that of boat prowlers. Other elements are of interest are the 17C choir stalls, the presence of a confessional dated 1814, which is unusual, as well as the 19C painted décor of the vault although this practice is widespread.

Well have done that for the benefit of my blog and my readers. Nostang is not a tourist town but a stop longer than a rest stop would be recommended for the church. It is historical for sure locally and has nice architecture which I like. Hope it helps.

Halle Saint Jacques in Lisieux!

And I taking you and me back to a wonderful historical and saintly town of my belle France. Lisieux is uplifting to say the least but even in this metropolis of churches they found to have a nice expo spot very unique me think. Let me update and tell you a bit more of the Halle Saint Jacques in Lisieux!!!

So let me tell you about a curiosity that we saw while touring awesome Lisieux, in the Calvados dept 14 of Normandie in my belle France! There is always something to see around here!!! This could be a post for a monument but is not. It sounds like a market as it is call a Halle but is not; well it actually was a former church Saint Jacques or St James! And the halle Saint Jacques! The former church Saint Jacques was built from 1496 to 1540 in a flamboyant Gothic style. The choir was completed in 1501, while the last stone of the nave was laid in 1540 ; the date of the dedication of the church.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

It is flanked by a porch tower at the level of the western facade and has the particularity of not having a transept . It thus does not respond to the traditional plan of Latin cross churches. The construction being built on a slope, the choir is at ground level, while the facade is raised on a porch subdivided into several flights, which contributes to the embellishment of the large portal. The nave is made up of a central aisle flanked by side aisles. The interior decor consisted of stained glass windows and painted vaults. All the old stained-glass windows in the choir dated from 1501. The first window of the nave was adorned with a splendid Renaissance stained-glass window with a scene from the Apocalypse. The stained-glass window in the Chapel of Charity represented a miracle of Saint James. The six windows of the bedside were, in the 19C, adorned with stained glass windows. All this rich heritage was blown away during the 1944 bombings (WWII).

Badly damaged in WWII, the church has been restored as faithfully as possible. The church, which has not received worship since 1965, served as a storage location for the museum. The Victor-Hugo district ,wonder what will happen to the Saint-Jacques church , closed to worship. Today it is a place of cultural events such as exhibitions, shows, etc; and it is now called Halle Saint-Jacques, located at 6 Rue Saint Jacques.

So yes this impressive building once supposely a nice church, is now an exhibition hall  for events , arts festivals etc of the city of Lisieux.  An anecdote for us passing by here maybe next time we can go inside for an event! Hope you enjoy the tip.

And remember, happy travels, good health, and many cheers to all!!!
