Nostalgia sets in, Hotel at Disneyland Paris!

Ok I must be on a nostalgic run lately after getting away from all those storms nicely thank you. I started to see what have I written poorly or little in the past in my blog and came up with this one; hope you enjoy it as I do.

Several years back, to make it short, we lived in Versailles and I work in Paris while my dear wife works at CDG airport.  My work in Paris was for about a little over 2 years in charge of accounting for a major chain of hotels base in one no longer with the brand , which was the Intercontinental Hotels Group.

I was in charge of several properties of the group in France including the one at Disneyland Paris. This was another brand of the group to make it short… While there, I had lots of discounts in luxury places in France and one of them was priviledge stays and meals at the hotel properties. So therefore, took the whole family to the old Holiday Inn Disneyland and a trip to Disneyland Paris (already written on this one).

The experiences were very memorable and lasting, as my sons still remember the trip. We had nice rooms , great restaurants and game room space, a wonderful indoor heated swimming pool and gym as well as free parking and free transportation to the Disney Village etc.

And we did visit Disneyland Paris in its initial runs, to compare it we had been back afterward but still nothing like our older Orlando FLA near home. Still for Europe is a must at least once and why not more; the place has change so much today its totally different and the biggest attendance attraction in France; the most visited country in the world by UN-WTO official standards.

Now , as life moves on it is call the Vienna Magic Circus Hotel with the same game rooms, circus decoration, large good resto and the best the indoor heated swimming pool with all facilities and amenities the kids love it.  The official webpage in English is here: The Vienna House Magic Circus Hotel Disneyland

I had several meetings held there when working with the hotel chain IHG, and the memories and friendship has withstood the time gone, good people, recommended.

Hope you enjoy my nostalgic moves and do enjoy these properties today in my belle France. The pictures are old as do post the Holiday Inn times. Oh by the way, this is not Paris (sorry Parisiens) . They keep saying Paris for the sales pitch but the hotel as the park are in Seine et Marne dept 77. The hotel is exactly at 20 Avenue de la Fosse des Pressoirs. 77703 Marne-la-Vallee.

The hotel in the official Disneyland Paris webpage in English: Vienna House Magic Circus Hotel Disneyland

Again, a wonderful vacation spot for the whole family and the area is still growing on all kinds of services and housing and more attractions. Stay tune for more…

And remember, happy travels, good health, and many cheers to all!!!

Sentimental Chambry in S/M 77!!!

So on a cloudy cool rainy day; I am becoming sentimental again, and even if mentioned in previous post do not have one alone on it and it so richly deserves one me think. I like to tell you a bit on the village of Chambry in Seine et Marne dept 77 of the Ïle de France region in my belle France.

Brief personal note: When I first met the women that later would be my wife, her mother lived here. It was my first home in France! I used to joke (tried) with my in-laws saying ” Did you saw Jules Ceasar passed by here?” joking that there was nothing here but wheat fields! After many years it became my second home and of course we visited often enough to know every street in the village. My dear late wife Martine has passed away and now this past December her mother Yvette passed away too. I still have the 3 sisters and brother living in other villages nearby but the trips have become less. Nevertheless, it is a sentimental big spot for me in Chambry,  Seine et MarneFrance, always remember and they even have a bus line now lol!!!

Let me tell you a bit about this small village of great importance for the history buffs like me as I learned later.

Chambry is a village located 7 km north of Meaux. It has less than 1000 inhabitants. The village is served by the bus line No 22 (Meaux– Rouvres-en-Multien), from the Transdev Pays de l’Ourcq network. Transdev network of line 22 here:

Chambry was settled and has its name as today in the 13C . The origins of the name comes from the Gallic cambo, “curved”, this comes from the agglutination of the personal Gallic name of “Cambarios” and the suffix “acum” which means: “land of cambarios (curved)”. It can be a land where hemp was grown. Chambry according to local tradition would have been an area given by Julius Caesar to one of his legionaries in the 1C BC.

Theater of violent engagements during the Battle of the Ourcq (WWI September 1914). The Battle of the Ourcq marks the beginning of the first Battle of the Marne. It engages the 6th French army, part of the British army and the 1st German army.

Some things to see here in town are the Church of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul, 15C, damaged in 1940, and restored after 1944 The church, originally called Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption, was renamed Saint-Pierre-et-Saint Paul. (St Peter and St Paul).

However for the rememberence and history oriented folks (like me) you need to come here for the memorials and cemeteries of WWI.

These are the monument known as Monument of the Four Roads (des Quatre-Routes) erected in 1915 by order of General Galliéni dedicated to the memory of the soldiers of the Army of Paris who won the Battle of the Ourcq. Alos, the National Necropolis a French military cemetery bringing together 1,331 bodies including 341 in individual graves and 990 in ossuary’s. And on the other side the German military cemetery ,created for the German soldiers who died during the Battle of the Marne.

Some webpages below in English to help you plan your visit here are

The cemetery of ChambryTourist office of Pays de Meaux on the Cemetery

The National Necropolis of ChambryTourist office Pays de Meaux on the National Necropolis

Tourist office of Pays de Meaux on the German cemetery

And for those in the bike mode, (I do in my car…) there is a nice circuit to do here on WWI routes.  The bike ride on the Battle of the Ourcq: Tourist office of Pays de Meaux on the bike ride 31 km Battle of the Ourcq

And the official bike circuit with map here in French: Official circuit battles of the Marne bike ride

So, there you even in this Roman (::)) remote area you find something to see and do in my sentimental Seine et Marne, of my belle France. Hugely personal Chambry, hope you enjoy and let me know if passing by here.

Sentimental Meaux and shopping!

Ok so I am terrible for creativity and can only come up with this title. Actually, I like to tell you about the market ,covered market, and foodies in the sentimental(for me) city of Meaux! OF course, in Seine Et Marne dept 77 of the Ïle de France region.

First, hear it all about folks, Brie king of Cheese, the cheese of Kings (Vienna 1815) is only done here. Yes  you may buy it anywhere in France even abroad, but the real thing is here, raw milk from the Brie region and done the artisanal way for generations. Do not buy pasteurized milk brie it is not Brie and certainly not from Meaux area!

You have the marché or market in city center around the bd Rose, and the river or around the cinema Majestic every Wednesday mornings, Saturday all day, and Sunday morning. Under the covered market in just over the Marne river you will find merchant selling the real brie cheese with un pasteurised milk. The best market in the area::)

If you cannot come to the market or not convenient when passing by then go to the real cheesemaker here. The one in Meaux has been doing for years from generation to generation and the one our family buys from. This is the Fromagerie Saint Faron. Here it is produce as well as the smaller cousin of Melun. You can have tours and tastings as well.  There is no webpage but the tourist office has info in French here: Tourist office of Pays de Meaux on the Fromagerie Saint Faron

The official Confrerie du Brie de Meaux webpage for the fraternity that guard over the authenticity of the Brie cheese is here in English: Confrerie du Brie de Meaux cheeses

There is ,also, next to the Cathedral St Etienne, La Maison du Brie , with history, making of, tastings, take home selling and the whole gamme of products . This is , also, the Tourist office of Pays de Meaux! The tourist office has a bit more in French: Tourist office of PAys de Meaux on the La Maison du Brie

And if Brie de Meaux is not enough to bring you here then come over the for the Moutard de Meaux or mustard! The mustard of Meaux, is well renown, the story goes well there is no telling when it was created !!! all we know is that in 1760 someone gave to a Mr. M.J.B Pommery , the secret recipe for the mustard, that has by priviledge be presented on the tables of the kings of France since 1632 AD , the house of  Pommery came to be located at 69 rue du faubourg St Nicolas (very near my wife’s birthhouse) until 1927 refusing to give the secret away, at that time the last descendant of the house sold the business with recipe and all . Still commercialise in all over ,you can buy it too in many stores in Meaux, or at the manufacture as well as in the St Faron Brie cheese factory as above. Here is the webpage in English for boutique of Briards: Official mustard of Meaux by Briards

And the same webpage on the history of the Mustard of Meaux! in English! Official mustard of Meaux on its history

The area just outside Meaux along the A140 is full of stores of all kinds, a great shopper’s paradise with prices better than Paris.  City center around rue St Remy is pedestrian only.  For the Brie cheese and many other do come to La Fromagére de Meaux, 4, rue du Général Leclerc, old city center off rue st Remy, selling all kinds of cheeses too ,is open every day except mondays and even open Sunday morning. Their info is at the tourist office in French here: Tourist office of Pays de Meaux on the La Fromagére cheese shop

Then, you can’t go home without a baguette or one of its variations, we like the Tradition better. Our favorite here over the y ears is the Boulangerie Prentignac, 31, rue du Faubourg St Nicolas ,tel +33 01 64 34 12 38 open every day even Sunday mornings, except Mondays. A bit more on them but is the bakery of my family in Meaux for years; and we just got some last Christmas delicacies from Gasgogne!!!. Boulangerie Prentignac in Meaux

And there you go some nice shopping in a historical town of Seine et Marne, ïle de France , and my belle France; sentimental always in my heart, Meaux.  You might note it is close to Disneyland Paris and already many lodge here cheaper. Hope you enjoy the post as I did.

And remember, happy travels, good health, and many cheers to all!!!
