Hope you enjoy them and do try them when visiting Madrid the food and shopping is an experience to behold in lovely Madrid. For lack of creativity ,I will copy this first paragraph into the subsequents posts! ::)

Well this is one post that needs to be told as doing both shopping and restaurant. The reason been, at the Mercado de San Miguel you can do some tapas, full eat or take home your purchases! All in one lovely spot even if rather touristic with prices to match the environment.

When it opens we came here and my local family (cousins etc) do come for take home once in a while but we are less and less by it. Nevertheless, it is a must to visit if you are in your first or second visit to the city of Madrid as it is one of its most emblematic show of local cuisine and ambiance.

I have written before in my blog so will be very brief and post the new pictures in 2019. My post on the Mercado San Miguel is here: My previous post on the Mercado de San Miguel

From the San Miguel market page you can read:  More than 100 years have gone by since the Mercado de San Miguel opened its doors as a wholesale food market. Today, this historical building stands out as one of the world’s main gastronomic markets. It allows visitors to experience the essence and most significant flavors of every corner of Spain.

From the finest Iberian ham and freshest fish and shellfish brought in daily from Galicia, to Mediterranean rice dishes and the most exquisite cheeses from Castile, Asturias and the Basque Country – at the Mercado de San Miguel, you’ll find all the highlights of Spanish cuisine. Spread out over more than 20 stands, the common denominator here is a commitment to high-quality tapas and pub fare.

Over the years, me and my family have patronized the following establishments there: El 19 de San Miguel , La Casa del Bacalao, El Señor Martin, and the Horno de San Onofre. All very good on site and take home!

You can get there by Metro Ópera Línes 2 and 5 and Sol Línes 1, 2 and 3. As well as suburbian trains Cercanías Líneas C3 and C4 terminus Sol , bus lines 3 and night time N16 and a nice underground parking at nearby Plaza Mayor.

And there you go , an old classic to be visited at least once in your trips to Madrid or thereabouts. Enjoy the Mercado de San Miguel in my beloved Madrid!

And remember, happy travels, good health, and many cheers to all!!!

Shopping: Victor and ZapShop, Madrid!

So, therefore, after posting about the monuments and sights of my beloved Madrid will go into the places of shopping and restaurant with a series Restaurant: XXX Madrid or Shopping: XXX Madrid. Hope you enjoy them and do try them when visiting Madrid the food and shopping is an experience to behold in lovely Madrid. For lack of creativity ,I will copy this first paragraph into the subsequents posts! ::)

So let me bring you a quick review on a new store that we stumble upon in the middle of tourist central and it was a good buy. This was ZapShop at the Puerta Del Sol; it so happen this is now their newest and flagship store with the admin office on the upper levels! The prices were great as I got my pair of shoes for 19 euros! and they are very comfortable! Not that I am an expert on shopping but so far so good.

The chain ZapShop has managed to sneak in the last year in the ‘prime’ areas of the center of Madrid. Zapshop, specializing in low cost footwear, has ten stores in the capital, almost all located in city center/downtown; the last one, a flagship in the Puerta del Sol. And it was here that we saw it first and shop!

Without making much noise Zapshop has managed to keep its stores always full. The key? the prices. Thus, it competes with its own brand, which it has also called Zapshop, with footwear that is around 30 euros made in China; However, it also occupies its lines with Pepe Milan, a brand based in Almansa (Albacete), with a higher price than its chain footwear. The company carries out its production in Elche (Alicante) and in Asia, mainly in China and introduces between twenty and thirty new models in stores every week.

They are working on their webpage so in the meantime here are the reviews on my fav site Yelp as in my blog roll bottom of my front main page. Yelp on Zapshop

Then we come to another shoe store this one classic historical working class neighborhood of brand names of old and new. The Victor Calzados (shoes) store is at Calle de Alcalà 278 between Quintana and Carmen metro line 5. I have known it for years!

madrid

The store is full of shoes to the ceilings and the staff is family very friendly and knowleagable. Well enough or I will be very sentimental. To put it short, my dear late mother Gladys took me here in the early 1970’s to buy my shoes while we live right on Calle de Alcalà 331, right off the exit of metro Quintana line 5! On the second floor (3rd US) 2do A , postal box 67(Buzon) and always come here as a pilgrimage to her memory.

Over time, I too, took my now dear late wife Martine here and eventually my 3 young men sons, by now a family tradition of good shoes, good prices and very friendly family service. If you want this then by all means come to Victor Calzados its an easy trip by metro from Centro Madrid and it will be worth it, recommended.

There is no webpage of course, but it is listed in the Yelp reviews site here: Yelp on Victor Calzados Madrid!

Hope you enjoy the shopping in my beloved Madrid and especially on very special places of mine. Madrid is it!

And remember, happy travels, good health, and many cheers to all!!!
