Restaurant: Segovia!

Here we go again ,this time is sublime Segovia, Castilla y Léon, of Spain! I have come here since a child first with my mom and later with my wife and boys always wonderful to walk its streets and see the gorgeous sights. We will be back for sure.

For now , let me tell you about a memorable stop I did with my dear late wife Martine and the boys at La Oja Blanca, Plaza Mayor 7, Segovia; tel +34 921 46 08 94. No web.

segovia

We walk a lot here even on its steep cobblestone streets, and as hunger strikes we end up either by the Aqueduct or the Plaza Mayor. The one we enjoy for the service, food, prices, and wonderful view of the square was this one.

Let me tell you a bit more on the La Oja Blanca of Segovia.

Small place in the Plaza Mayor for the morning tapas, coffees or afternoon infusions or drinks from the first hour of the night. The music goes according to the time of day, in such a way that you can hear from Tchaikovsvy to La Polla Records. Occasionally they organize painting and photography exhibitions. Good terrace for the hot months, with great views of the music kiosk.

We had of course our bathful of Mahou beers (of Madrid) , codfish croquettes, chorizo a la cazuela, hot dogs! and omelettes all for about 8€ per person. The services were very generous,  fast and courteous. Good for a beer and a snack. Prices were reasonable and tapas. If you expect cold beer and reasonable prices you will not be disappointed.

Segovia

The good sign is that it has no official webpage simply very local for more than 30 years there. We really enjoyed it and hopefully you will too once stop by in Segovia. The name is La Oja Blanca or the white stream as there was a water source there in ancient times.

And remember, happy travels, good health, and many cheers to all!!!

Restaurant: San Lorenzo de El Escorial!

Ok so one more in my quest to left an imprint of my rounds in restaurants with the family in Europe and elsewhere. I am taking now to a wonder of our world that must be seen and do walk the town too, it is wonderful. I am taking you to San Lorenzo de El Escorial in the Comunidad de Madrid of my beloved Spain.

While gazing at its marvel Royal Monastery  and walking its historic streets one has to be hungry. We have come here since 1990 with my dear late wife Martine. IN fact, while there with her car we had a flat tire and needed to call for a local garage to come and take the car to fix the tire very nicely and quick. We love to come here ever since!

As to eating well true to making a one day trip from Madrid our numbers of places are not much but one memorable one is the Meson 5 Bellotas, Calle de La Reina Victoria 10, San Lorenzo de El Escorial.  Facing Plaza de la Cruz. No web just their Facebook page here: Facebook page of Meson 5 Bellotas

San Lorenzo de El Escorial

We are lucky to have known  Mesón 5 Bellotas because each time we are very nicely welcome and always a good quality/price ratio.  The management/owner is very nice too. You can always taste delicious tapas that are the specialty here as well as known for its cold beer!

We come for lunch , and tapas galore we have bits and pieces of different ones including the famous grilled toast with all kinds of goodies on top your selection as well as theirs. The views over the square is nice and lots of people seeing going on! This is the Plaza de la Cruz.

San Lorenzo de El Escorial

You do well to stop by and try the Méson 5 Bellotas at San Lorenzo de El Escorial, not far from the monastery main entrance.

And remember, happy travels, good health, and many cheers to all!!!

Restaurant: Alcalà de Henares!

So back at you with another dandy in my beloved Spain. In continuing with my series on restaurants visited with the family and with photos I take you now to a great memorable find in the Comunidad de Madrid.

While visiting the wonderful Alcalà de Henares we stumble on this nice place right in front of the Cathedral! with a funny name La Gitana Loca or the crazy female gypsy and it caught our attention to go in. It was a very nice encounter with cheap tapas and beers which we have repeated going there.

Alcala de Henares

The prices were one euro for the tapas and we had it going to as much as 70 cents the euro for the glass of beer known as the cana! Enough simple thing to do with a family. It is located at Plaza Santos Ninos 4 directly across from the main entrance to the Cathedral.

Alcala de Henares

A bit of my impression on it.

The truth is that the site does not deceive;  cheap food and drink. The place is normal to go for tapas, the interesting thing is the place where I find it, at the foot of the Cathedral by its main entrance for an excellent location. Bustling site for cheap glass of beer or canas with friends. The atmosphere is for the young but for a family can have great combi tapas and beers and in summer the terrace is elbow to elbow full. The food is not very remarkable as tapas are simple but cheap as well. A good place to cool off, have a drink and admire the architecture of the magisterial Cathedral and its storks from the terrace and continue the path.

Alcala de Henares

An umpretentious place that look more like a bar than a restaurant but the service was very friendly and the food good and cheap, tapas for one euro and beer for 70 centimes attack attack!!!

The official webpage is on the franchise host and not enough info as well as in Spanish : Official La Gitana Loca

Yelp reviews on La Gitana Loca

There you go a wonderful tourist spot with still great Spanish prices. Enjoy your lunch at La Gitana Loca as we did.

And remember, happy travels, good health, and many cheers to all!!!
