Restaurant: Indonesia!

So going into exotic lands for me was a thrill back in 2012 when started visiting Asia, and Indonesia. Over the years since, I had my share of good cheers with friendly locals and many good souvenirs, now I like to tell you about a couple of great places of different tunes.

Let me tell you a bit more on Mad Dog Jakarta and Taman Pringsewu Yogyakarta.

I had a blast off my culinary exits in Jakarta with Mad Dogs, well this one came twice ::) Great place and a hanging out of the expats community here; friendly place, with good, affordable food, pool table, beer garden and sports on TV.  A good place to meet expat since it is a very popular hangout place, especially for American, Australian and British older expats .  Here, I had fish and chip and steaks with Bintang beers of course.

jakarta

South Jakarta sports bar and restaurant Mad Dogs is located in the Cilandak Commercial Estate which is a popular area for bars in south Jakarta. Opened from 2004. It has lots of flat screen TVs scattered around the walls, makes Mad Dogs the perfect place and great bar to watch live sports showing all types of sports including soccer, AFL, NRL, international cricket, F1, golf, and tennis on its large screens. Drinking beers and watching favorite matches in an exciting atmosphere are what people love to do at Mad Dogs. Good prices for food and drinks, delicious food and strong cocktails with fast and friendly service.  The restaurant is full at lunch time. Great ambience during lunch time when good ambient music picks up the mood.  The VIP room is non smoking while everywhere else is open.  Great food, cool atmosphere and friendly service.

Restaurant: Cuenca!!

So on my continuing nostalgic trip visiting my favorite hangouts all over the world this time I take you to my fav town of Cuenca in Castilla La Mancha Spain. One of my most nostalgic towns having spent wonderful family vacations here and they last.

Let me tell you briefly about my fav restos here of the several we have patronised over the years, these are it; Cafe bar La Martina and Cafeteria Boni!

cuenca

Cafe Bar la Martina at Calle Carreteria, 33. You will find perfectly cooked tapas, jamon and pan con tomate on the menu. It’s a must while visiting Cafe Bar la Martina to order delicious beer. Get your meal started with great coffee. The convenient location of this place makes it easy to reach even in rush hours.  The fast service is something these restaurateurs care about.  Reasonable prices at this restaurant are good news for its visitors and the ambiance is pleasant.

cuenca

So lunch we had at Bar Cafe Martina  each time in town or most, it was found as usual by walking around the town coming on its most pedestrian nice city center street of Calle Carreteria. This is a local joint very friendly nice and the price right. We had our usual beers Under a umbrella canopy in the middle of the street, and had our omelettes, chorizos, and croquettes all good for about 8€ per person.

cuenca

Calle Carretería had its great splendor when the city ended in La Ventilla and little more than Cuatro Caminos, along Calle de la Alameda, which led to the bullring and the avenue of the Reyes Càtolicos (Catholic Monarchs)  of scattered dwellings. It was  the real shopping center of the city , still partly today, for the purposes of the social life itself. No webpage contact Tel +34 969 23 47 30. Which is a good sign really, you have locals and the real ambiance and food.

Cuenca

The Cafeteria Boni  at Av. de los Alfares, 48 with terrace sitting that is set up in the parque/Jardines de San Juliàn by Calle Caballeros entrance as well.  The service and food was good but it was the most expensive experience in the trip! Only 15.90€ per person for arroz a la Cubana, small  steaks, fries, omelettes, croquettes of ham and cheese, and beers for all. No web contact tel   +34 969 23 03 96 again good food and great local ambiance.

cuenca

Another find by walking the beat of the town of Cuenca. Best of all, its terrace for a drink on the hot summer days under the shades of the imposing trees of Parque San Julian. Their attentive staff is very hard working, always has a positive attitude and makes this a great place. A wonderful memorable experience with the family.

Hope you enjoy these brief posts on restaurants as you can certainly know these are part of the nostalgic adventures we take when we travel even in very familiar places like me in my Spain. Enjoy the restaurants of Cuenca!!!

And remember, happy travels, good health, and many cheers to all!!!

Restaurant: Madrid!

So back at you with my beloved Madrid: well what can I say more than on numerous posts in my blog about Madrid. I will be back this late August !!!! So many memories of good food and good cheers and plenty of good restaurants. However, as family in mind these will bring me joy to tell again.

Therefore, here are my nostalgic restaurants of Madrid.

Cerveceria Cruz Blanca  redefines the concept of a brewery and recreates the old classical and chaste taverns that originated in the early 20C. The brewery has locations all over Madrid becomin an ideal meeting point to enjoy its star product, beer, and accompany it with a variety of tapas based on canned, fried, fresh seafood, fish market and chacinas. Cruz Blanca will leave you with a great taste in the mouth and certainly a good reason to repeat the experience. My favorite is the Calle Dr Esquerdo  157 (near Conde de Casal) with a great terrace with two parts: one next to the semi-covered premises that has water sprinklers in summer and heating in winter and tables on the street in summer. The place is on the side of Dr Esquerdo where the sun shines in the afternoon so the best option is always with sprinklers in summer. There is another I have visited at Calle Menendez Pelayo ,47 (across from Retiro park) .both can be reach with metro line 6 at Sanz de Baranda stop.

The 100 Montaditos ,the term refers to an ancient Spanish culinary habit of filling one or two small slices of bread with various ingredients such as cold cuts, meat, fish, vegetables, cheeses or various types of sauces.100 Montaditos has thus decided to take inspiration from this tradition by giving life to a list of a hundred different proposals.  In its service formula a form is filled out with the order that is delivered at the counter and, once prepared, customers are notified through electronic gadget for direct pickup.

For snacks or a varied lunch, opt for the low-cost 100 Montaditos of this Madrid chain. Ideal for discovering the spirit of tapas, the menu offers a hundred mini sandwiches, accosted with ham, cheese, tomatoes and many other Spanish flavors. Try it all over Madrid. I enjoyed always with the family at the locations at Calle de la Princesa; 22,  Calle Mayor; 18 , and  Plaza de las Cortes; 3.

Named after its owner Esteban González, this restaurant is the result of a lifetime’s effort to fulfill a dream. The El Rincón de Esteban offers classic cuisine with seasonal products and it is not uncommon to find famous personalities from the world of politics on their tables. It’s worth eating here every day. But coming in the themed days of hunting (season), in the codfish, and in the time of San Isidro will allow you to try special menus very top!.

In the Calle Santa Catalina, in front of the Congress of Deputies (gov of Spain); this restaurant invites, before and after, to be able to walk through the pictorial and historic streets of the Barrio de Letras, as well as savor the capital Castiso pure local tradition. Without a doubt, El Rincón de Esteban, is one of those classics that three generations that transit Madrid know perfectly; as well as the culinary temple that every tourist must visit to understand the Spanish gastronomic culture. Indeed!
