The museums of Jakarta, TMII

Well now is time to go back to Asia, and specifically Indonesia, more so to Jakarta. This is a relativily new region for me , started coming here in 2012 and really enjoyed. I am planning to go back end of this year.

I came to Jakarta and stayed at a hotel just across from this museums and then came back for more. One of the highlights of the trip was to know about the culture of Indonesia, very varied. Anyway, I have written several posts on Indonesia in my blog but I will like to give you a bit more on the the museums of Taman Mini Indonesia Indah . There is public transportation to get you here but I was taken there by car.

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) or Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Park is a culture-based recreational area located in East Jakarta. It has an area of about 250 acres (1 km2). The park is a synopsis of Indonesian culture, with virtually all aspects of daily life in Indonesia’s provinces encapsulated in separate pavilions with the collections of rumah adat as the example of Indonesian vernacular architecture, clothing, dances and traditions are all depicted impeccably. Apart from that, there is a lake with a miniature of the archipelago in the middle of it, cable cars, museums, Keong Emas Imax cinema, a theater called the Theatre of My Homeland (Theater Tanah Airku) and other recreational facilities which make TMII one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city. Indeed.

Since each Indonesian province maintains its own unique and distinct cultures, shelters, attire and dialects, TMII built a model of each of the houses from Indonesian provinces. TMII attempted not only to reconstruct the homes of the various provinces, but also to create a realistic model of the environment and shelters of the various people of Indonesia.

The venues, which are situated around the main lake in a similar fashion to the different islands of the Indonesian archipelago, are thematically divided into six areas in respect to the main islands of Indonesia; Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan (Borneo), Sulawesi, the Lesser Sunda Islands, Maluku and Papua. Each pavilions featured in typical vernacular Indonesian architecture of each provinces.

The Automatons and Miniature Models museums of La Rochelle!

And as I am nostalgic these days of La Rochelle, let me continue showcase this city to you in my humble ways of my blog. The story not to be repeated is in my previous blog post on the city ,which are several, just do search front page of my blog front cover.

La Rochelle is historical ,architectural, and great ambiance by the sea; however, it has other charms hidden from the casual visitor.  As in my previous blog post on the aquarium, let me show you a bit more of the automatons and reduce models museums of La Rochelle. These museums next to each other and admission can be combine showcase all machines that can be manipulated like robots me think huh! and miniature models of cities events machines of many years back , superbe!

It is a very interesting and very nice display museum that you and the family should check it out. It is located at Rue de la Desirée, La Ville en Bois, just on the other side of the old harbor of La Rochelle, you can go on foot from there. As said, they are next to each other and a wonderful day of private museums family outing should be call for!

The Museum of Automatons, first of its kind in France and opened since 1984, has some prestigious items. It offers, to both small and large, the joy of observing a collection of old figurines from all over Europe. The research was meticulous: sales halls, antique shops, granaries, department stores… The result is up to par, with automatons dating from the 19C and those advertising of the 1950’s but also the historical reenactments like this district of Montmartre at the very beginning of the 20C, with its shops and showcases. This is awesome indeed.

More than 300 characters in motion: ancient, contemporary automatons, animated showcases, historical scenes,… that will enchant young and old. You will then be seduced by the presentation of numerous reproductions: automobiles, old boats… and by a sound and light show recounting the great hours of sailing. You will marvel at the rail circuits allowing you to relive your childhood dreams.

Automatons come from all over Europe and from all eras. The museum is divided into 4 parts: the old automatons of before 1900; The advertising machines of the years 1920 to 1950;  Historical reenactments; And the animated showcases of department stores.

The museum of reduce models or miniature models ,is one of the most important museums of this type at the regional level, as much by its exhibition area as by the number of exhibits and animations in place. The museum of reduce models comes from the assembly of different objects from a company created in 1959 and made sets for thematic exhibitions.

la rochelle

Created in 1987 and located in the modern district of the Minimes between the old Port and the marina, this museum consists entirely of private collections, spread over a total area of 800 m2. It is the largest regional museum specialized in the theme of the toy and the model.

Through models and modelling and a varied animation, the museum presents among others: the Automobile (Rolls Royce torpedo Phantom 2). The history of navigation (naval Model room, sound and visual reconstruction of a naval battle). The Railway (railway tracks including one outside the museum, famous model of La Rochelle station).

The Museum of reduce models, also offers a journey into childhood in the small world of the imaginary. The visit is more classical and allows to admire in particular models of boats competing in a naval fight or evoking the great discoveries and of the railway circuits. Magical!
