Some news from France, XCXXXVI

Good evening folks, I think I am running out of Roman numerals lol! This is France again and Paris in particular ;we can never feel tired of it.

The water levels are continuing to descend, and the cleanup is just on the horizon, with lots of dirt and mosquitos.  The transports are still on strike , and still on strong Union/Syndicate willing to continue it. Oh well ,this is Paris France too.

The grill door of the Ritz Hotel 15 Place Vendôme will open June 13, to welcome our first guests after re opening. However, be aware the cost of a room is , €1,000 for the smallest room 35 m2; € 7,000 for room César Ritz, with its 120 m2 and up to 28 €000 for the suite overlooking the Place Vendôme. You can offer yourselves a dip in the pool of 17 m, with hammam and sauna for €200. Body care massages at the Ritz club. Massage, body treatments, beauty of the hands and feet, will cost between €200 and €600. A cocktail at the bar Hemingway; the favorite of the writer Ernest Hemingway will cost €30 for a glass.Lunch at the bistro, on the side of rue Cambon, open from 8h to 02h in the morning, the Ritz bar offer a bistro style meal for around €60. France will host the Euro16 from June 10th to July 10th 2016. This is the European Football Championship (Soccer ,Calcio). The organizing body ,UEFA,has invested at least 34M Euros to insured the safety of the event , in the stadiums, training sites and hotels all HQ at the international center for communication in the Porte de Versailles, Paris. To this , you add 4M euros for the security ring on the Fan Zones insured by France for another 8M€ , and the host cities another 12M€ for a total of 24M€ with 13.000 security agents. Outside the stadiums and fan zones France will deploy 42.000 policeman, 30.000 state police or gendarmes, 5.200 civil security personnel , and 10.000 military personnel. The fan zone in the Champs-de-Mars will be open during the entire period of the competition, including the evenings matches at Paris, and Saint-Denis. The Euro16 is the third biggest sporting event in the world behind the World Cup and the Olympic Games and will be transmitted to more than 130 TV stations in 230 zones of diffusion in the world, seen by an average of 150 millions spectators per match . In France,the TV chain TF1 (spending about 40M€) will show 22 games , the TV chain , M6 (25M€) 11 games including the Final,and the private BeIN Sports will show 51 games including the exclusivity of showing 18 matches. http://euro-2016-france.net/

The travel site Trivago did a Survey on the preferred cities of Europeans to visit in France.  It found that the Germans are the ones with the most research into coming here followed by the Italians, British, Belgians, and the Swiss. Of course, Paris remains ahead but the rest were mostly in the South.  Second and onwards were Nice, Cannes, Porto Vecchio, Marseille, Antibes, Saint Tropez, Ajaccio,Calvi, and Sainte Maxime. A close to home anecdote on the Streets of Paris. There is one Rue Jose Maria de Heredia 7éme, name after the French Cuban poet , and named from 1909 in his memory. Born in La Fortuna, Cuba Nov 22nd 1842 and died in Houdan (Yvelines 78) in October 2, 1905.  He is part of literary groups such as the conference La Bruyère and became an influential member of the Parnassian school. In 1863, he met Leconte de Lisle and collaborates in the contemporary Parnassus, while binding friendship to authors such as Sully Prudhomme, Catulle Mendès, or even Anatole France.  In 1884, Guy de Maupassant dedicated the book Garçon, a bock!…Elected to the Académie Française on 22 February 1894, the Chair of Charles de Mazade.During the voyage of the Russian rulers in Paris, in 1896, he composed the Salut à l’ Empereur. Member of the Board of the dictionary, he became in 1901 curator of the Bibliothèque de L’arsenal. In 1902, he founded with Sully Prudhomme and Léon Dierx  the French poets society.  Heredia and his wife, who, in 1901 and 1902, had spent their summer in Montfort-L’Amaury(Yvelines 78)  on vacation, decided in 1903 to change  home and choose the Château de Bourdonné, near Houdan (Yvelines 78) . He was buried on October 7 at the cemetery of Bonsecours, Rouen  (Seine-Maritime 76). In his tomb No 26, rang 19 of the 1 division of the cementary are ,also, laid to rest his mother, the husband of his first daughter, his wife, and his daughter Hélene. He has a monument in the Jardin du Luxembourg, Paris.
