Some news from France CXVII

A storm that was to be passed and nothing in my area, just some heavy gusts but all is ok.  The Mr Winter yes, that has arrive, temps of 5C this morning moving up to 12C during the day.  The house is coming along, slowly putting up with workers to do their job, slow here. We have the garden all cut, now waiting for getting the tree trunks out, and finish a terrace that eventually will have tiles. The beat goes on with a house we never end doing things.

For the France beat, many things as always.

One of my favorite American restaurants of Paris, Trick or treat, a real American Halloween at Joe Allen near Halles, an institution in Paris since 1972. There will be a costume party until 3H morning, buffet of American goodies until 00h30. Located at  30, rue Pierre Lescot, Ier. Basel into Switzerland; a short stay

BaselJust back fromBasel Basel Basel Basel Basel Basel Basel Basel Basel Basel Basel Basel Basel Basel

A short two days trip to Basel in Switzerland. Not much time to do any sights and business does took more than I anticipated, but a nice glimpse of Switzerland. To start, this is the only country in the world (been to 79) where I have been search at customs passing the border with France. I guess they have nothing else to do lol!

The trip was done by train so its ,also, a first for me; took off from Auray in the Morbihan Breton by TER train to Nantes. There took the TGV to Paris Montparnassse. There took the metro line 14 to Bercy and then line 6 to gare de lyon. At Gare de Lyon took another TGV Lyria to Basel. ON the return was easier as just skip the TER and came straight from Montparnasse to Auray. The cheaper alternative is always the most of the connections.

I arrive in Basel train station, which is a beautiful building in city center, and the hotel was just across it, nice lively place lots of people out which is always good. http://www.sbb.ch/en/station-services/am-bahnhof/railway-stations/basel-sbb-station.html . However, I was very impressed by the tramways all over the city huge quantity of them, and very clean easy to take. http://www.bvb.ch/en/timetable-network/online-timetable

The hotel I stayed is the Hilton Basel , which had all the amenities you can think very chic ,nice, and great city Bar and restaurant. http://www3.hilton.com/en/hotels/switzerland/hilton-basel-hotel-BSLHITW/index.html

The markthalle or covered market around the corner is unique place to buy produce, fruits, etc typical of many European cities. And the train station is wonderful and easy to move about even for a not so train person like me. The Migros store got me some fine Swiss chocolates, http://filialen.migros.ch/fr/#/Basel-BahnhofSBB/0023900

I had dinner at Da Roberto , an Italian resto, here I was disappointed, the food was not that greeat and the service very slow, but the setting is nice with artist movie stars on the walls and near both the train station and hotel.  Very fancy, but did not live up to my culinary expectations which are high. http://www.da-roberto.ch/start.php

In all, it was a nice quick visit to the city of Basel, overall good visit. Except the customs guys;honest all I brought back is chocolates ! Enjoy the photo of my little European escapade.

Asia on my mind ,great rides into Indonesia and China

I am back not for long leaving out Sunday again this time in Europe; however, Asia was great and instructive. My trip took me to Surabaya and Jakarta in Indonesia, and Qingdao in China passing by several places.

First, left from Nantes airport to Paris CDG to Singapore Chiangi airport, and finally arrive in Surabaya Indonesia.  Here had the change to eat at a fish:seafood place where you can pick the live fish from the tank and they cook it for you, it is Daun Lada ,original webpage here http://kulinersurabaya.net/ikan/daun-lada.php  I stayed as before in the Somerset hotel résidences, http://www2.somerset.com/en/index.html

I,then ,continue to Jakarta, a totally different city ,much more vibrant than Surabaya.  Here, I had the opportunity to see the wonderful TMI park with all the wonderful history and architecture of all Indonesia. It has homes constructed in smaller scale of all the houses style in the country. The museum of Indonesia with the tree of life, and the museum of penangkom for films are good too. The zoo of birds with great species including eagles are wonderful. You can see all about it here http://www.indonesia-travel-guide.com/Jakarta_Travel_Guide/Taman_Mini_Indonesia_Indah/Taman_Mini_Indonesia_Indah.html

In Jakarta ,I stayed at the wonderful hotel GrandKemang at the vibrant quartier or neighborhood of Kemang, wonderful hotel and location.http://www.mesahotelsandresorts.com/grandkemang/   The highlight of the trip was to walk just from the hotel to Eastern Promise bar, sports bar, live dance club all in one, just great, you will have a blast here http://www.easternpromise-jakarta.com/

Well the airports , wow, I spent many on this trip. I have given you before Nantes and Paris, then Chiangi Singapore and Surabaya, and Jakarta but this time there was China.

My next stop was Guangzhou, http://www.guangzhouairportonline.com/ and I went on to Qingdao, http://www.qdairport.com/qd/2009/en/ , this is where I stayed at the wonderful friendly and superb service Holiday Inn Parkview here http://www.holidayinn.com/hotels/fr/fr/qingdao/daopv/hoteldetail?qDest=Qingdao%2Cchina%2C+People%27s+Republic+Of&qAdlt=1&qChld=0&qRms=1&qIta=99600594&qPSt=0&qSmP=3&qWch=0&qSHp=1&qBrs=6c.hi.ex.rs.ic.cp.in.sb.cw.cv&qSrt=BRAND_SORT&qRad=30&qRdU=1&qRpp=25&qRRSrt=rt&qFRA=1&srb_u=1

The stay was wonderful here ,in a city with a German history and the famous beer of Tsing Tao. Here I ate at Anomtoula (not sure on the name), and it was a traditional Chinese place. Then, I had drinks and food at the KR Korean fine dining in the Holiday Inn Parkview, 2fl very nice beef dishes with vegetables in a traditional setting. Refined, authentic Korean cuisine is served in a rustic, yet elegant atmosphere. Exciting table top hot plate cooking is offered in semi private rooms overlooking the lush greenery of the park.

I,then, moved on to Pekin, where I spent several hours in the airport having dinner at the Lei Cafe across from the customs entrance to hallways B where I took m plane to Paris. webpage here http://en.bcia.com.cn/

Once at Paris, had my breakfast at the EKKI lounge by gates T2F 29 afterward taken my flight back home to Nantes, driving home in my car.

In the meantime, I flew with Air France most of the way, but I also, try again Garuda Airlines in indonesia from Surabaya t Jakarta, http://www.garuda-indonesia.com/id/en/index.page. In Singapore, I went to Surabaya in China air at http://www.china-airlines.com/en/index.html

Then, took China Southern to Guangzhou, http://www.csair.com/en/  , there took China Eastern to Qingdao and back to Pekin, http://www.ceair.com/muovc/main/en_HK/index.html  . So as you can see, took a wide and long trip around Asia back to my little comfort zone in Brittany.

Some representative photos of the trip to follow. Have a great weekend y’all.

My new home of Pluvigner in the Morbihan Breton III

ok so the Sundays are quiet, restful days here, most is close but in this country town in the Morbihan city center or downtown is alive and kicking with the bars, bakeries and restaurants. Some like the one we visited today open again today at 19H!!!

I am getting ready for a twirling run of Asia for work so today is preparation day for me. Not wanting to leave just like that took the family and including my dear Papà to lunch in a typical area restaurant about 12 minutes walking from our home. Yes, you read right now I can walk to the services, city govt, restos ,stores etc just like a big city neighbor only with the coziness of country living.

Today was the highlight to try Poull houard restaurant, here is the webpage , http://www.poullhouad.fr/  As you can see its right in city center, at 23 Place Chazelles , this is just diagonally to the town’s main church of Saint Guigner, and just after the main Place du Marché.  The restaurant is open for lunch between 12-14h on Tuesdays to Fridays and Sundays. Then in the evenings from 19h to 22h30 Tuesdays, Wednesdays , Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Then , you have the so call  “apéros-bière”  , from Fridays to Sundays from 18h30 to 20h. This is the Duck’Ale brew right on the place, by the owner himself, nice beer if a bit coarse , however, great price at 2,70€ for 25cl and 8€ for a bottle of 75cl.

The husband and wife team who lives at the place and rent chambre d’hôte above, are from the region of Paris who moved here many years ago, for the last 2 years they have open this restaurant combining fresh local produce and cuisine with the inventive ideas of the Paris area. All very nicely done and very friendly chatting welcome on recipes, vendors for decorations, and just the everyday life of the town.

Highly recommended if passing by or in town to have your lunch or even better dinner here. The food, welcome, and quality are second to none. I took some pictures of the resto, rare for me but worth it. We had the Italian dinner menu on Sundays, st jacques in penne and pasta sauce,  pissaladière, tiramisu ,and plenty of Duck’Ale home brew beer by the bottle.there was, also, pizzas, escalopes de veau jambon avec figues or ham veal with stuffed figs, and scoops of ice cream, etc. All good. All about 20 euros per person.

Now ,I am back home really quickly to finish my packing for the trip tomorrow, and will be back end of October, so bear wait for me, and we will be in touch again in wonderful France, and exhilarating Morbihan ::)

Some news from France CXV

Well its time I get back to my France posts and Paris in particular. This was a cloudy some light rain day and my favorite bakery is closed. So time for some latest à la Française.

one thing that I have notice for some time and finally getting into France ,and Paris latest journals or newspapers is the 13éme arrondissement of Paris.

The Biennale de Belleville comes back in September 2014 with new artists in vogue, al. ways something to look forward to.  Look for this site for the updates, it’s a great event. http://www.labiennaledebelleville.fr/

In the same vein, the Ateliers de Ménilmontant come back in September  each year and again for  2014 with 150 artists that take over the streets with great art extravaganza, the site to follow is here http://www.ateliersdemenilmontant.org/index.php

You have two good ones in the 11éme arrondissement in Le Perchoir, with a dancing rooftop.  Typical  new-yorker on top of an industrial building. The bar offers great folks and magnificent views 360° of Paris.  Cocktails, tapas ,and music pop will gladly welcome an Indian summer at, 14, rue Crespin-du-Gast site here , http://www.leperchoir.fr/

Freddie’s Deli continues the new york experience at  22, rue Crespin du Gast, more here http://www.freddiesdeli.com/

Some new boutique hotel in Paris, as folks always looking for something new and unique , is the Hotel Joséphine  with much glamour. It is open just this last summer, small distance from the  Moulin-Rouge, and it has a spirit of  cabaret design. it is at  67, rue Blanche (75009), website  http://www.hotel-josephine.com/

For the noctambules , the latest disco music hangout is Le Dandy at the district of  Pigalle.  It was made out of an old house from the 1930’s, redone in an intimate apartment with furniture of fleas market. Concerts pop rock with DJ as well as electro. It is at  26, rue  Pierre Fontaine ( 75009)  webpage http://www.dandyclub.fr/contact,1,1424.html

At short steps from the cemetary of  Père-Lachaise,in a small street surrounding the  place Gambetta, La Colline, théâtre national  is the excellent hidden of contemporary modern art. Two rooms, a bar, a light food restaurant, a library, and many acts is a living breathing center of this district nowadays. Plenty of bistros and small restaurants in the area very much in vogue by the youth or young at heart like me. Located at  15 rue Malte-Brun ( 75020) webpage at  http://www.colline.fr/

The metallos of Culture. With a great effort of local neighborhood associations the city of Paris purchase this house in 1997, The Maison des métallos, was an old factory of the metallurgical union. And last but not least, for the nostalgic Francophones like me, the Innocent are coming back, October 4 -11. In the course of the Festival Les rendezvous de la Lune,at the  Fondation Biermans-Lapôtre; the Les Innocents, a French pop group formed in 1982 and separated in  2000,make a comeback very intime. You will have the occasion to listen to their famous songs such as  “Colore”, “L’autre finistère” or “Saint Sylvestre”, that plays in the radios of France in the 90’s.  Held at the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris -75014; webpage for more info here http://madamelune.com/festival-les-rendez-vous-de-la-lune/
