Saint Anne d’Auray always beautiful.

I live now very close to it, and drive by almost every day, but as always with very important tourist areas, we live here so come inside once in a while. We again drove by Saint Anne d’Auray ,the sanctuary of the patron saint of Brittany, Ste Anne.

She is very much in everybody’s thoughts here, been the patron saint of the whole region and Bretons, but ,also, according to manuscripts from the 2-3C AD , the grandmother of Jesus Christ ,and mother of Mary.

The tourist office is the same as mine,  http://www.auray-tourisme.com/home/nos-villes-et-villages/sainte-anne-d-auray.aspx ,and the city mayor’s office is here http://sainte-anne-auray.net/spip.php?rubrique6

Today we had our lunch at the resto La Boule d’Or,which is also, a hotel. The resto is usually full of pelegrins and visitors ,but today was fairly ok;not crowded. the food is good, seafood and fish par excellence and here since 1840!  Traditional French  proposing menus from  13 € to 30 €.  Bar, jardin, parking available. More info at the department tourist site here http://www.morbihan.com/restaurant-la-boule-dor/ste-anne-dauray/tabid/7419/offreid/76a6be50-2c74-4c83-929c-1b1993a0ff1b/detail-restaurants.aspx

We needed to buy some souvenirs for family and friends so we finally got inside the La Medaille souvenir shop right across from the basilica complex. The store created in 1986, propose a large selection of religious articles and Breton souvenirs. You will find the store of many models of medals, rosaries, statues, key chains. As well as numerous articles in faience: plates, statues, dishes, cups, mugs and bowls with first name.  All my articles are available in store throughout the year. Hours  March 1 to November 15 ,10h 10h30 to 19h , November 16 to January 10  11h-12h30 and 13h30-18h, and from January 11 to end of February from  13h30 -18h ; tel +33 (0)2 97 57 78 15.

We came into the city by the road D17 as coming from Vannes, and the shot at the monument to the fallen Bretons is imposing, see photo.

Actually ,the main reason we came was for an exhibition of religious artifacts from many churches and chapels in the Morbihan deparment on expo at the Cloisters of the basilica of Sainte Anne d’Auray. This runs thru October 11 2013 and its free with a contribution as you wish. Hours 14h to 18h every day. The display on the two floors of the cloister centered around 40 pieces of religious art.  Coming from the pays de Vannes and Vilaine are statues of Mercure painting of Saint Patern, scupltures of Saint Roch and Saint Sébastian etc.  Pays de Ploëmel (pays means region), is sculptures of Saint Anne , painting of donation of rosary 17C, sculpture of Saint James, etc. Pays de Cornouaille morbihannaise and Pontivy, wooden poly of the virgin and the child, 16C, etc. Pays de Lorient and Auray, chinese porcelain virgin of Sainte Anne, , the bust relics of Saint Cornély in golden wood, etc.  There is a guided tour at 15H every day. Nice introduction to us to get to know our area, and the opportunity to see rare objects from several churches at once.

The basilica of Sainte Anne d’Auray main site is http://www.sainteanne-sanctuaire.com/

The cloister is the only remaining building from the 17C, and a historical monument of France. On top there is a gallery where permanent and temporary expositions are held such as the one above.Hope you stop by and if you do let me know. Cheers.
